Had blood last week, got results my liver function is extremely high! Got to go have more blood work done tomorrow, really worried what it could be or mean!!
So sorry you are going through such worry and anxiety. I pray that it turns out something simple that the doctors can fix with meds. I know what you are going through only too well. I went a week not knowing if I had cancer or not before I got the results back a couple days ago. It turned out fine though and they think my MGUS is a sign of the lupus or some other autoimmune disease. Stay calm and know that God is watching over you through this so you're not alone.
I've had a very similar issue. I have been getting severe bruising and clots in my legs and arms. The doctor said he could be due to liver problems. If you have an allergy to the sun, you could be lacking vitamin D which could greatly effect your liver. The doctor might be able to give you a strong dosage of vitamin d to determine if that has something to do with. Then after 4-6 weeks, you go back for more blood work to see if that's the issue. Good luck!
I have had the same issue...when I take Milk Thistle, it really helps to normalize my liver labs. Also, I quit taking NSAIDS and pain killers for a few weeks. Best wishes for better liver function....lots of people on this site will be praying for you and responding. LupanCatwoman
What’s NSAID meds? Thanks everyone!!
ibuprofen aspirin anti inflammatories. They are hard on your kidneys as well and can deteriorate your joints over time.
I don’t take any of those!!
I know the feeling. I have lupus and autoimmune hepatitis (not from lupus).
NSAIDS also include anti-arthritis drugs.
Hold on.
That’s what their worried about is hepatitis cause I had blood transfusion when I was in 2nd grade!!
How long ago was that Monica?
About 25yrs ago!!
National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute states:
Hepatitis B and C. The risk of having a donation that
carries hepatitis B is about 1 in 200,000 to 1 in 360,000.
The risk of hepatitis C is 1 in 1 million to 1 in 2 million. If
you receive blood during a transfusion that contains
hepatitis, you’ll likely develop the virus.
However, depending on when you had your transfusion, I am sure doctors would have checked you for the possibility of having one of these or other illnesses. This is just speculation and nothing more. I was tested for a number of other things since having blood and platelet transfusions. I am confident that I am completely clean from anything other than Lupus and the problems that come along with it.
Try not to worry. Your liver could be off due to a number of different things hun. Thyroid, cholesterol, gaul bladder or from medication. I will keep you in my prayers and if you get the chance to go to a health store, ask for a suppliment that will help with liver and gaul bladder health. There are also supplements for thyroid health, blood heatlh and so much more.
If it does come out to be a form of hepatitis, don’t be discouraged because there are many people living with it that have normal lives. Please know I am being sincere to you and I really hope everything goes wonderful for you.
Please let us know how it goes.
Try not to panic...I had one that was over quintupled what it should be a few months ago...and it turned out to be a one time thing that they think was caused by a new medication that made me extremely ill. After I stopped the medication everything went back to relatively normal. Worry is stress and stress is just not good for Lupus sufferers. If you feel as good as normal for you...don't over react to any tests results. Sometimes the tests are just not indicative of anything in particular...and sometimes they change in a few days time. Hoping you will find out it has all changed with your follow up test...like mine did.
Thank you all so much!!
Hi, yes it is hard to deal with the unknown, but everyday has it's on problems, deal with the moment in which you in ( the NOW) , that what Jesus said in Matthew !!!....Beverly L.
if you are talking about your liver enzymes mine are extremely high too, doc said it was from nsaids i was taking like crazy, get re-tested next month. i had a blood transfusion 24 years ago and i was told by hospital staff that the blood is tested for all that stuff before they will even take it so you are with me in that you in the safety zone, should be for hep and hiv , ect. ect. also, you may want to get someone else opinion on this but my doc is always looking to make sure i dont have yellowing skin or the white of your eyes, check with someone who has hep, just going by what my doc does. good luck and take care of yourself, no stress, no stress, no stress, it will kill you before anything else does.

how do they do a liver biopsy, was that surgery - under the knife-anethesia ?

About 20 years ago my liver enzymes were through the roof. They told me that I had NASH or nonalcoholic fatty liver. They made me go and have a liver biopsy. They wanted to participate in a study which would involve me coming in at regular intervals to have liver biopsy's as well as the blood test. I did not want additional liver biopsies and declined to participate.
Now my liver enzymes are fine. There was never any specific treatment prescribed by a physician. One of the things that I did was to pay a lot more attention to what I asked my liver to filter. I think that one of my major problems was chronic dehydration. By not drinking enough water I was asking my liver to clean the same blood fluid over and over again. I sincerely hope that your liver is just asking you for a little more water to make it easier for it to its job.
Don't worry. The liver has great powers of recuperation.
My meds make my liver enzymes go up and down. I had to have a Liver Biopsy it’s not bad it’s done by needle aspiration then you have to lay on your right side for awhile after the test.
I have solved my high liver enzymes count eliminating meat from my diet. (vegetarian) I read this in the American Liver Foundation website. It works!
