I managed to get an extra medrol dose pack during my last flare. I’m back on my menstrual cycle, and i have the painful huge bumps on the sides of my tongue and the next say, I woke up to a sore throat, swollen glands, etc.
Debating “is this a flare?” As I don’t have body aches. I don’t want to waste the medrol if its not.
Will medrol help the mouth sores? Or only special mouthwash?
The risk you run is not to be taken lightly. It could be a virus, or simply thrush (candida), and neither will benefit from steroids. In fact it coould make matters worse. Consult your physician if you are uncertain what is going on, and feel you need treatment. Warm saltwater is your go-to for mouth problems at any rate. The Magic Mouthwash (which I’ve never tried) a lot of lupies recommend is supposed to be very effective as well. Always look at simple treatments before going the route of systemic, unless you really know for sure what it is and that it is the right thing to do. A descending dosepack could also cause you to flare, and if you aren’t in one, you don’t want to cause one.
My mouth sores went away with plaquenil along with swollen tongue and sores on the left side of my tongue What a blessing!! I had them for over a year before diagnosed with SLE
the magic mouthwash is wonderful but it's relief doesn't last long.
What is the Magic Mouthwash and where can I get this?

Unrtunately it is a prescription. It has lidocaine in it and it numbs your mouth. It works great but it doesn't last more than ten minutes or so. I was prescribed it the last time I had an allergic reaction to my 5th antibiotic. Normally I don't get the mouth sores since I've been on plaqenil.
Thanks for sharing this. I had to get off Plaquenil one year ago due to retinal damage and that's when my mouth troubles started getting worse.
