I was diagnosed almost 1 year to the day and been on plaquenil since. I still get mouth sores. Sometimes for weeks. The plaquenil has helped tremendously with pain and fatigue but these sores are sometimes out of control. Last month I lost 10lbs because they were so bad I was only taking in liquids for 2 whole weeks. Right now I've had the same one on the tip of my tongue for 2 weeks now. Makes eat, talking, and drinking difficult. I'm making an appointment with the rheumy but am I the only one the plaquenil is not totally working for? Is this just a part of it that isn't going to be manageable for me?
I get mouth sores also and my doctor blew it off, saying they were viral.
I mix liquid Benadryl with mylanta and coat my mouth and tongue when I get them.
On also on plaquenil and it had helped, but I still get flares with my menstrual cycle often.
I get horrible mouth sores and am forced to drink Ensure bc I can’t handle the pain. I miss eating! I’m on plaqeunil as well and they were much worse when my rheumy took me off of them, but I agree with you - there must be something better out there!
I take acyclovir it helps with mouth sores also eat yogurt with live cultures
There is a wax available that people who wear braces use to keep the braces from cutting the inside of the mouth I use it for the mouth sores its not perfect but it does help enough that I can eat and they seem to be healing up faster. Hope that helps . God Bless

I also am having mini flares with my menopausal symptoms must be the hormones or the lack thereof .

plaquenil didn't help me much either, but for the mouth sores a drug called nystatin (sometimes referred to as swish n swallow) works quite well, I still get mouth sores quite often making it really hard to wear my denture, a few days of nystatin and the sores clear up, its the one med I keep in the house on a regular basis. Hope this helps
