What is this? See pic

This morning I noticed something on my eyeball. Very red, almost filmy looking. Didn’t think too much of it although I’m not one to have anything go on with my eyes. By the afternoon, my eye has become sore and a little painful when I blink. What is this?

Could be a corneal abrasion - you should go to urgent care and get it taken care of

I experienced eye redness and pain which my ophthamologist swore wasn't related to Lupus ( I didn't believe him because it started the same time my other Lupus symptoms did). He prescribed allergy eye drops which cost me $80 and did nothing. I went back and he reluctantly admitted that it could be related to the Lupus..... and prescribed me steroid eye drops ($10) which resolved the problem right away.

Definitely see a doctor as soon as you can, preferably an opthamologist. Good luck!

Lupus can affect every part of the body. It's a lupus inflammation. It might be the beginning of conjunctivitis or uveitis. you can Google them to make sure the symptoms are similar. Then see your Dr, and ifit doesn't go away, an ophthalmologist who has some idea about autoimmune diseases.

Sjogren’s goes hand in hand with lupus and causes dry eyes, skin, mucous membranes etc… I get those in my eyes fairly often. It’s usually a result of either too much sun, forgetting my eyedrops, staring at a computer screen for too long, basically anything that can lead to eye irritation. My eyes get abraded quite frequently thanks to the sjogrens. It can also be allergirs. Gentle hugs

To me it looked like you had a little something black in your eye and the redness around it. Maybe mascara?

If it hurts or itches a lot I would go to the doctor. Lupus can affect our eyes too!

let us know what happens.

I’m going to my primary today. It still looks the same and hurts a lot.

So I went to my primary and he thinks it’s a Pterygium. It’s a growth. I’m going to an ophthalmologist tomorrow. Has anyone heard of this?

Hi! you do know that the butterfly rash also comes into your eyes , which with me it is the start of a serious FLARE !!! You can use eye drops for this , and Please don't rub your eyes ??? That is a major NO NO NO . Been there done that . Use eye drops to give your eyes moisture it works , Oh! only the orginail kind ...Beverly L.

Along with my lupus diagnosis, I also have sjogrins syndrome. Check out symptoms of this annoying little thing called sjogrins. Discuss it with your dr.

Jennifer, have you joined our Sjogren's community? There is a link to it on the right hand side of this page.

No, not yet, but I will thank you…I am new to this rodeo… scared, confused & frustrated! Can use all the support I can get. :heart:
