Since May 20th I have not been able to work due to the pain and swelling in my legs. Can not stand for more that half an hour, and I need to use my walker if I have to go out. A couple of friends suggested I apply for unemployment. I was always under the impression that it was for people that had no job, either fired or layed off. I still have a job just can not work. So I go online and fill out the unemployment application and sure enough there was a part about being on a medical leave of absence. Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has ever done this and if so were you approved for it? My primary care doctor has filled out paperwork saying that my return to work is undetermined at this time, and that I need to see a specialist for further treatment. That appointment is not until July 23. I have worked this job for 6 years now.
If your employers offers short term disability I would apply for that. The problem I found myself in is similar I was finally forced to quit working after being on medical leave twice in 18 months, my employer didn't offer short term disability, so all my time off was unpaid. I found out the hard way you can not collect unemployment if you are unable to work due to a medical condition, and you can't really even apply for ssi disability unless you've been out for at least a year, or your doctor's expect you will be unable to work for a year or more, its a bad spot to be in. I wish I had better news for you will keep a good thought for you. take care of yourself
