I live in Las Vegas and since the sun and heat seem to be my mortal enemies (I know most of you know what I mean) during the summer I go into a sort of reverse hibernation. Staying inside as much as I can, scheduling appointments for the cooler parts of the day and doing other things like grocery shopping (when I can actually handle it) late at night when the heat isn’t so bad. The problem is I’m bored. My pain tends to travel all over my body bit lately it’s really settled into my hands. I used to like to do things like crochet and jewelry making but that’s out. Even holding a book (I’m a total book addict) is painful these days. I love to cook and bake, which I am able to do some days when I can be in my feet for a while.
My question to you fellow lupies is, when you are stuck inside what do you do to keep yourself entertained? I am having a torrid affair with Netflix and Hulu but I’m running out of things to watch lol. I’d love to find something new, maybe a new hobby or something I haven’t thought of. I’m open minded to just about anything. Thanks guys
Reading your post is like a looking back at the last few weeks for myself - even down to the hobbies!
I’ve just got into jewellery making and it drives me mad when I can’t hold things properly because of hand cramps. I’ve also been off work for 5 weeks now because of torn ligaments in my ankle so I’ve occupied myself by watching about every series and film Netflix has to offer!
If you like your crafty stuff, what about card/bookmark making or something similar that’s less fiddly than jewellery making? Or set yourself a little project like making a photo scrap book or something.
I’ve also had a few nights in with friends/my partner where we just get some snacky food or a takeaway and a film and have a get together. Just helps you feel a little less iscolated from the rest of the world!
Hope your pain settles down a little soon!

Ooh I had totally forgotten about card making! I think I will head to the craft store on my next good day and get some supplies. Plus it would give me an excuse to write a few letters. Thank you Chloe!
As far as difficulty holding a book, I can definitely relate to that. Some type of eReader might be a good idea. Kindles for example are very lightweight, much easier to hold than a book. And they have come way down in price -- I think you can get the cheapest one for $69. There may be other eReaders for less as well. Tons of free books available (mostly classics) plus many public libraries will now lend eBooks.
Or, if you have a smart phone, you can get the Kindle app or other format eReader app and read on it. That is what I do most of the time, very small, easy to hold and change pages, and you can even read in low-light or darkness. I love that I always have a book with me, wherever I am, no more remembering to bring reading material for waiting at the doctor, etc.
If you have the money, an inexpensive Android tablet might be good as well, you can use it as an eReader, and you can do much more with it as well. I love doing crosswords on mine.
