Prednisone

I have a short and difficult history with Prednisone. Last Spring a physicinan checking

my hand for carpal tunnel cyst put me on 70 mg (terrible decision). I tapered down and had

the minor hand surgery 1 month later. When I stopped, I went into a full blown Fibromialga...

extremely severe pain and even some pain through my body.

After a full work up in the ER, my rheumatologist put me back on 5 mg..........I was freaked

about going back on it but it helped. After about 4 months, I cut back to 2.5 and had a reaction

again, Stayed on 2.5 for 7 more months. Then I took a deep breath one day and broke a rib.

It freaked me out and I cut back again for a month. Have been off Prednisone for about a month.

This week I was told that I needed both knees replaced, due to Lupus and Steroid damage.

Unlike a typical brittle bones, I have developed "sponge like bones".

We dont even want to discuss that medicine. because of it I need both my shoulders replaced. I found out that my pap smear came back positive for the hpv virus. which can be cause by steriods. My teeth are cracking alot cause Im loseing the enamal in my teeth once again cause of the steriods. I been takeing them everyday for the pass 10 years. So Believe me I know what you are going through

Tanya, I have had both shoulders replaced before the Lupus diagnosis came to the forefront of my

health. My teeth are cracking but it has never been related to the steroids. i always thought it was due to the

grinding from the dtress of the pain. My doctor told me I needed both knees replaced last week.

When I broke a rib taking a deep breath, I decided to wean myself off pred...went from 5 to 2.5 for a month then none. So far so go one month out

Yes I read that the steriods can eat at the enamal in your teeth. Im trying to get off this drug as well
