Prednisone

So sorry - I have lupus and severe allergies. My allergies make me anaphylactic which requires a couple of steroid shots and steroid pills as well. So I know how you feel - I just got off 40mg. daily of pred. Sometimes steroids are the only thing that will help us. Please don't starve yourself trying to lose because you will need these nutrients with your age and with your illness. Be careful working out excessively so you don't get yourself into a lupus flare. I'm so sorry but it isn't going to come off fast. Only thing I can advise is with steroids come the munchies. When you have the munchies try to eat healthy to help your body and save on calories. I have had friends in my life that haven't been accepting on the requirements of my illness. So I have found new friends that were. Make sure your friends love you for who you are - not what they want you to be. With this disease we can still have the time of our life and enjoy every moment. So go to that prom and just enjoy everything about it.

Thank you guys so much. Im so happy i found this web sight. I much needed to talk to others with Lupus. This disease sucks and is horrible. But its nice to know im not alone.

A big part of the swelling will go down when you are off the prednisone. As far as weight to keep it off you need to loose it slowly. Sorry I know that is not what you want to hear. Eat healthy so you can recover from your flare and exercise with caution. I wish you all the best, and hope your prom is great.

i know how you feel.. i have been trying to lose for a while and its a very very slow process. but it seems to be working for me, though i still am on Prednisone. I am not sure if this would help you but its worth giving a try.

The first thing i did making sugar and salt consumption almost negligible. secondly drinking lots of water, keeping myself hydrated all the time. fruits with high water content like watermelons are my snacks. i added vegetarian diet and am limiting lean meat. red meat is absolutely no. and yes one last thing at least 20 minute walk everyday, though it is not easy for me because of pain and stuff..

this appears to be working for me as of now. i was able to lose 1 kg weight in almost 40 days. But what i feel is the ultimate mantra of looking good is the way you carry yourself. True we can not fit in pretty dresses like others, but that wont change you as a person. be confident with whatever dress you carry yourself with. remember dresses are made for us. we are not made for them. :) stay strong, stay confident and have fun. Good luck.
