Oral care

occasionally i do get sores in my mouth, which, according to rheumy are from the lupus. also, i have noticed, with the prednisone i suffer from dry mouth. but what i'm not sure of is if the next thing i'm going to mention is from the dry mouth or the lupus.

every once in a while, the skin on the inside of my mouth seems to all start peeling off. i've bitten the occasional cheek and had a small piece before but this is my entire mouth. the inside of my lips and my cheeks and i just can't seem to do anything to help it. i started brushing multiple times a day, using the tongue scraper on my cheeks, even scraping the skin off with my nail. but nothing seems to work and it usually lasts for days at a time. then all of a sudden i'll wake up one morning and it'll be fine. i even had to take my lip piercings out because it was causing issues.

Has anyone had anything like this happen before?

Hello disarraycarr,

Yes you can get sores in your mouth from Lupus and also from meds.

Have you been tested for sjogren's syndrome as the dry mouth usually occurs with that if it's constant as that comes in primary or secondary.

If i was you i'd look at this other site of our for sjogren's syndrome as we're talking about peeling issues at the moment besides pictures have been added...here's the link for the site.

I've checked otherwise on the peeling concerning Lupus to do with the mouth and it stems down to sjogren's syndrome.

Do you also have thrush (yeast infection) on your tongue and the inside of your checks? This can cause peeling to happen. Thrush can be from the steroids. I get it all the time! You would have a white/ yellowish coating on the inside of the cheeks and on the tongue area!

Deenie

no, there's no white/yellowish coating. just the skin peeling off. almost like i chewed the inside of my mouth.

Hello disarraycarr,

I'm not saying you have sjogren's you'll only know that by asking your rheumo but if you take a look at the threads just been done on the site plus there's some excellent links, they may help you.
