New guide lines for eye check up on plaquinil

http://www.aao.org/publications/eyenet/201105/retina1.cfm As an earlier discussion stated the importance of eye exams. I wanted to add another reminder as to why it is so important.

I agree Ann and you will be glad to know the 3rd question my new rheumy ask was When was the last time your vit d level was checked. She added it to my labs.

The article talked about the new guidelines but did not state what those guidelines are. I get screened once a year, once by an eye doc, once by a visual field machine, and then I also got a special scan done of the back of my eye. This year was the first time I’ve ever had the scan. I’m assuming that they will do another one next year and compare them to see if there is any damage? ~Annemarie

Plaquinel made my forearms, back of my hands, and lower legs gray. All for the sake of a peeling nose. Sheesh!

my eyes itch all the time and are so dry I get my eyes checked by a specialist having lupus is very exspensive

When I went to have my eyes checked and I told them I was on plaquinil, they said my insurance didn't cover that exam and I had to pay for it out of pocket..I just don't have the money for all of the out of pocket expenses this disease is causing me.. I just don't know what to do but pray...
