Mobic and NSAIDs helped ruin my kidneys!

Well, friends, I had my visit yesterday with the nephrologist. He took me off the Mobic. Said years of being on NSAIDs has scarred my kidneys and with the damage Lupus has done to them I have to start using just plain ole Tylenol Arthritis for the pain. Well, the mobic wasn't really working for me. I guess I was building up a tolerance for it since I have been on it for so long. He said he was happy I didn't have much protein in my urine, so that is a good thing. I am to stay away from the salt and drink extra fluids, but not to drown myself. He said just one extra glass a day would make a big difference. So I am dependent on the Plaquenil to do it's stuff.
I am so stiff today!! I tried to hand write a letter to my Dad in the nursing home. He was really hard!! My wrist and fingers kept aching and cramping. This is just the first day. Good grief!! So if anyone has any ideas about things that are natural anti-inflamatories that would be great. I'm gonna send Dr. Oz an e-mail and see what he suggests. Boy, with the weather changing, this is really gonna be tough. I am going to be using a lot of Stop Pain roll on, I can see that!!!

I am so sorry to hear how much you are suffering. It 's so hard to have problem after another. I don't know of meds that will help or foods (others know way more about that than I do) but i can say that one thing that is helping me a lot is a thing called Emdr---it is really helping me deal with pain. I have a counselor who is helping me with it, but there are a few emdr cd's for pain relief that are available from amazon that you do on your own. I am working of affirmations to use as well to retrain my brain and grow new neural connections. I use the bin-aural music with headphones and memorize the affirmations to think about while the music plays. I love it.

anyway, you will be in my prayers,

Thanks Janice for the suggestion. I will definately check that out!!

Thanks Ann, I am only taking 2 of the Tylenol Arthritis in the morning and 2 at bedtime. In between I rough it out the best I can. But today is only day 3 without NSAIDS. The next 2 days are suppose to be rainy so we will see how I do. I am very careful about my liver, since I know I only have 1 of those. I had drug induced hepatitis back in the early 90's due to Ibuprophen and will NOT take it again because of that!! Of course at that time I was taking the maximum dose of 2400 ml per day. I was stupid and so was the doctor who was giving it to me. That's when I really started checking on what ever any of my doctors prescribed for me. Afterall, it's my body!!!! I will definately check out the site. Yes, I have changed my diet and looking into more changes. Thanks for the link!!!

So sorry that you are dealing with pain and inflammation without your normal meds. Please be careful with the Tylenol. Just a little more than the daily limit can seriously damage your liver. Have you tried fighting the level of inflammation with food? Here is just one site that I found when I googled inflammation fighting foods.God be with you in the battle.
