Lupus quilt

I couldn't sleep last night. My brain was churning with all sorts of feelings about lupus. I'm either getting a cold from one of the rugrats at the church daycare/Sunday school that I help out with, or I'm going into a flare. Anyway, I was just so angry that it feels like my body is rejecting itself. So, I got to doodling a little sketch of how I see our cells under attack by these angry little antibody space ships that shoot fire balls at our cells.

Well this morning I'm sitting here looking at quilt blogs, specifically art quilts where people use any and all materials to depict something close to their hearts. Some people make huge scenes of wildlife or family, all from just a photograph! I'm going to turn my doodle into an art quilt! I've never made an art quilt, but that's never stopped me. I can't wait to show the finished product to you guys! It might take several months, but I'll share the progress as I go along.

Ballerina, how lovely you found a way t o turn frustration and negativity in to something positive and productive. Awesome. You are one smart cookie. Can't wait to see how beautiful this comes out.

That’s awesome. I can’t wait to see it.

Hi Megan,

Regarding your coldness mate it could be either one a cold or flare...just keep yourself warm.

It humid and warm here but that 15 tog duvet never moves off the bed but lovely how you thought about issues and are now going to turn it into art.

"Nice one and can't wait to see the updates on it"....Terri :)

I love to quilt. I must admit it takes me a lot longer than it used to. I can not wait to see the one you are making.

My mind is overflowing with ideas! I haven't had this creative "burst" in a long time. I drew a large scale picture today so that I can cut out my spaceship templates and everything will be as big as I would like it. The Wednesday ads came so I clipped a few coupons for fabric and other odds and ends. I'm hoping the Halloween fabric is out so I can get some shiny silver spaceship fabric. The flames on the fireballs and the parts of body cells that are on fire, are going to be 3D. I just want to be a little less stiff so I can get started.

Megan i've seen covers for beds which have been hand made with different materials but not what your doing...as by what you mentioning it should look out standing when it's finished and i love the sound of the 3D affect...nice one mate :)

Terri, I make quilts for beds too, like the ones you've seen. I also make ones a little smaller than a twin sized comforter/quilt to put on the back of the couch. I have quilts and blankets all over the place for when I have my cold chills. I even have one in my car! haha Art quilts use anything and everything so I can add sparkles and buttons and charms, it's going to be great! I already have a plan for some sparkles.

For our nursing honor society, we have to do a project (not sure what it is yet because they haven't sent out the information) before we're inducted. From what they were telling us before summer break, it's a very open project and we can basically do anything that we want, as long as it's health/nursing based. I'm really hoping I can use this "quilt" as part of my project.

Hello Megan,

There is most likely people still making them at home here in the UK but the ones from years ago are antic's now and cost a fortune to buy...it'#s mainly throw overs that people by now made in fleech.

If you have made them regular then this will be nice to see the progress of and i would make it your project also....so this ones got to be outstanding mate :)

I'll have the best project of the bunch!

I spend a lot of my time working on quilts too, we have to have something to keep us busy while we're stuck in the house !

We must share a "lupus quilting gene" :) because I have been working on a "lupus" quilt all summer that I am calling "shades of purple".......

You sound like a very talented quilt artist and I am looking forward to seeing your beautiful new creation !

BLESSINGS :)

I can inmagine Megan as your brains working overtime now but i'm pleased it's something you love doing and hopefully take your mind off what you go through :)
