I’m proud to share with you that in collaboration with the Alliance for Lupus Research and the Lupus Research Institute, the Lupus Foundation of America will offer a new annual award, the Lupus Insight Prize, to encourage innovation and scientific advances in lupus research.
The Lupus Insight Prize will recognize and honor an outstanding investigator each year with a documented record of creativity, innovation, and productivity in lupus research, and with a high likelihood of generating further advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The Prize recipient will be awarded $200,000 to be dedicated towards lupus research.
The Lupus Insight Prize’s request for nominations kicks-off on the heels Lupus Awareness Month, which takes place every May. The first Prize recipient will be announced and honored publicly in 2013.
The Lupus Foundation of America has generated $5.4 million in new public and private funding for lupus research in 2012 alone. By offering the Lupus Insight Prize in collaboration with our partners, we will be able to add to our rigorous research program and spark innovation and creativity that may not have happened without our funding. However, research funding is extremely scarce, and while significant progress in the field has been made, there is still so much work to be done. You can help us continue this exciting momentum by pledging your support. Your generous contribution will allow us to continue searching for the next breakthrough that will improve treatment and care for people who suffer from lupus.

Sincerely,
Gary S. Gilkeson, MD
