Does everyone remember the baby Dalmatian puppy my husband got me??..And he said he was going to train him to be my service dog.I find great humor in it because this dog is dumber than a box of rocks!!..so so cute!!"omg it drives me crazy, never sits still, chews on everything,he’s either dumb or stubborn,he will never make a service dog ha!ha!!..But he is oh so cute…I do believe the dog really was ment for my husband,he just said he was a gift to soften the blow of a new puppy…I named him gunner…at least he’s potty trained, because that would send me over the edge…but I love him,Im not sure what kind of tricks my husband thinks he’s going to teach him,I will keep you all up to date…celeste
Sounds like your Gunner boy is bored. Dalmations are the 3rd smartest in dog world with the border collie coming first and the poodle second. Daily hour walks help with the antsy behavior and chewing (hope he has his own toys). The one I had loved to chew soup bones.
Dals love fetching. Mine would do anything for a fetch game. He would even throw the ball at me. It was also an award when I was training him. If there is a dog park near by, you can let him run. The run very fast with a incredible stamina. They were cart dogs that ran with horse-pulled wagons.
Once you get to know how much dog you have, you'll really enjoy him. My dog loved to play games. Besides fetching he like to play go/stop on his walks kind of like "mother may I." I miss him so. He was the biggest challenge that I ever had with a dog. And, I learned a lot about dog behavior.
Hope you heard of the "Dog Whisperer." It can help you with dog psychology. You can google this and google "dalmatians." There's a lot of info on the web. Knowing the breed means everything.
My boy was Leroy Brown, a liver dal. He had a mask on his face like a bandit, hence the name. I really miss him. I now have 2 rescues whom I love and adore but they'll never hold a candle to Leroy.
Give that boy lots of love and excersize and things to do.
Bless you and Gunner!

Hi usagurl, thanks for the tip, this is our fourth dal,we lost our female baby 2yrs ago,she was 17,and our male tiller past the yr before baby he was 15,we live in the country and have a huge fenced yard for him to run,my husband is a fireman and he loves his dals, spanner died several yrs ago and he could stop drop and roll and high 5 and play all kinds of games,"this new guy we have was not treated well by the people who had him,he’s very skidish, afraid of everything and very aggressive when we are cooking or have any food out, seems unwilling to listen or mind at all,he challenges me all the time, and he talks all the time, very bossy, but I sure do love him ,he’s beautiful with great markings, our male tiller was a liver spotted dal, tiller and baby rode the fire trucks in every parade…it’s going to take a lot of time and work to make him feel safe and comfortable,it’s nice to talk to someone who has knowledge about the dal breed, most people don’t know much about them, they are very high strung and most people that get them don’t end up keeping them, tiller and baby were rescue dals as well…"do you remember when they remade the 101 Dalmatian movie and dals were everywhere, the pounds were full of them…now they are hard to find,my husband drove to Idaho to get gunner…no dal breeders in Oregon…the lady lowered the price on him huge??? Anyway he is going to be a interesting dog to train…any suggestions would be great…I might take him for some obedience training when I get back from Hawaii… Celeste
Leroy was aggressive or tried to be. He bit a friend at 1 year. His handler who showed him when he was young, said to put 3-4 pennies in an aluminum soda can and shake it (not hard). It's not to frighten them, but to distract him from the aggressive thought process and get the dog's attention. As he got older, all I had to do was to say, "where's the can?" and he would buck up and be sweet.
A friend owned Leroy's sister, Becca. The can trick didn't even phase her. Worth a try.
Good luck with that boy.

Celeste, have you ever watched Cesar Milan “The Dog Whisperer”? I get lots of good tips from his show. He rehabilitates dogs and trains humans. I wasn’t able to take my powerfully strong pit for walks because he pulled me along and thought he was the boss. I began applying Cesar’s methods and tips with him and I’m now able to take him for walks and control him. He knows I’m HIS leader and not the other way around.

The Shih-Tzu's are adorable! We have had 3, and now have one Maltese. Our Maltese is a lap dog, and sits with us when we are sick. She seems to sense when we need comfort ☺
... which should always be the case. right, my dear sister? :-)

Hi, this remind me of my ex-sister in law, she had a lot of animals also!! And want to get rid any of them when she had to move into a apartment, which was really sad . But she gave some of the neighbours some of the pets , which I think was a good ideal, some knew the pets very well. Of course she was sad for a while , she didn’t stay in the apartment long , she now has another house and have just as many as before , she really love different kinds of animals-Bless her heart and yours also. I think that is a cool thing…Beverly L.
I have to girls named Dolly (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and Pearl (Yorkshire Terrier). The unconditional love they have for me just brings me to tears sometimes. They can look straight into my heart. Here is a photo of them...
