I was taken off Plaquenil due to an allergic reaction and I am now on Prednisone only until he starts me on something else. Is it common for the prednisone not to control the pain and weaknesses? It seems to be worse rather than better, but maybe that is just the holiday rush.
My daughter was not controlled on Prednisone alone. She now takes Plaquenil, a compound like Plaquenil, and Actemra. She stopped taking Methotrexate recently, but may need to go on weekly shots to control small joint pain and her skin. I hope this helps you. Hang in there as they work on determining the medicines that work for you. Hugs. Carolyn
Hi
Sorry you had to come off plaquenil. What was the reaction you had.
I hope I don't have to come off it. Before plaquenil my mouth sores were bad, and I think plaquenil is the reason i'm not in too much pain. My last bone density test showed I have have osteoporosis in my L wrist. and it doesn't bother me well not much anyway.
Maybe your Dr will come up with something for you to take.
Thank you both - the plaquenil caused a severe rash. I have a 19 year old special needs daughter and I need to feel better!
For me no, the prednione does not help with feeling weak or help my muscle issues. I have found, that it takes a combination of meds sometimes. I am on plaquenil, cellcept, benlysta, gabapentin (pain med) prednisone, which Iam tapering down again, and a muscle relaxer at night. It takes time to find out what works for you. I hope you find the right one soon and feel better!
Hi tk
Did the plaquenil cause the rash or is the rash a Lupus symptom??
I have severe rash but that was part of the symptoms that caused me to be tested for Lupus.
Cindy
It was the Plaquenil it immediately got better when I discontinued use.
If you look up the side effects of prednisone, you will find that 2 side effects are pain and weakness. Doesn't make much sense it seems. For that reason, I don't take prednisone until the pain and organ involvement are so severe that the side effects would be nothing compared to the pain and damage that lupus are doing. Then I only take it for a short period of time. I know few people can take it that way. I truly hurt for those who have no choice but to stay on it, with such dangerous side effects. I think I might try low dose Natrexone next. Also called LDN if you want to look it up.
I too have been taken off plaquenil due to changes in my eyes have been on it for about ten years and my body does not do well when I am off of it.Prednisone is a great drug but the holiday rush always always wears me down lots of pain, they might need to kick up the prednisone dose until they get you on something else. Please take time to take care of you God bless.
Hell Seasons greetings, I have been on both of these meds since day one Feb. 2011, and NEVER had a completant . Sorry that you are having a allergic reaction to the med .
