Is it wrong to ask for a break?

We have two days of clinical left and like every end of the semester, I'm getting a flare-up. Would it be wrong to ask my teacher to go easy on me this week in terms of an assignment that's not very physically demanding? For example, a patient who doesn't need a lot of assistance with walking or needing to be turned in bed. I don't want people to think I can't do things or come across as someone who can't tolerate pain, but I feel rotten with this low-grade fever nonsense.

I hope you feel better soon, Ballerina. Of course, it's not wrong to ask for a break. You just have to weigh the possible consequences. Will this teacher be understanding? Or will she decide you are somehow not towing the line? Have other students taken a break when ill? You are in a better position to gauge the situation than we are.

I think it’s perfectly fine to ask your teacher to go easy on you… You don’t want to put too much strain on your body during a flare up it can make you feel worse and if your body is low then you’ll be more likely to get an infection… Try to take it easy and rest lots I find that helps me   don’t worry about what people think just do whatever is going to make you feel better

I'm sorry that you have to go through this, please let us know what you decide and how you handled it. Like dancermom says, you are in a better position to gauge the situation and consequences than we are. We should live in a world where its ok to ask this and not have to second guess it.

Hugs, Trisha

Thanks. I went in just seeing how the day would pan out and I ended up with an easy assignment for the week. God must be looking out for me. :) I did mention to her that with the fluctuation in temperature around here lately my joints have been a mess. She's pretty understanding. I don't like limits and really have to learn how to pace myself some days because I love to be on top of everything. Only one more day of clinical and then two exams!!!
