I saw the rheumatologist today. The results of the tear production tests show that I have decreased production in one eye and the other eye is normal. I have mild dryness on the corneas. The salivary gland biopsy is normal; however so many of my symptoms are consistent with sjogrens. The rheumatologist said that plaquenil is the first drug she would try for either UCTD or sjogrens so I am going ahead and trying the desensitization protocol.
Hi Roxy
I am glad you got the results back. I take plaquenil and have for many years.
Hi Roxy, I’m glad that they are putting you on plaquenil. I’ve been taking it for over 30 years. I hope a compounding pharmacy will be able to formulate it for you. When it finally went generic I had alot of trouble with it and had to keep paying for name brand until another drug company came out with a generic I could tolerate. Just so you know my tear tests were normal but the consistency of them was not normal. I had my tear ducts cauterized a few years ago. I had plugs in for years but they started falling out. After the second set I was like just cauterize them. I was first dx’d with Sjogren’s, then fibromyalgia, then vasculitis, then lupus, along with other stuff along the road…lol Hang in there and keep us posted on how you tolerate the plaquenil. Gentle hugs, Annemarie
I was actually diagnosed with Lupus and did not test positive for Sjogrens but I have it for sure. I have had dry mouth and dry eyes, dry skin and other areas (!) and have had 4 ulcer's on my Cornea over the years. I also have a terrible sensitivity to smells and my tongue feels like I have pins stuck in it. I am on plaquinil for my Lupus anyway. I just keep on truckin!
I was able to get my insurance to approve the formulated plaquenil. I guess it will be a few months to tlirate up to a therapeutic dose
