Hereditary autoimmune

I have IBS and Lupus. My 15 yo daughter is beginning to have mouth ulcers and sores in her nose. I am debating on whether or not to take her to the doctor and ask for Ana labs. What are your thoughts?

I would definitely take her. Even if it is not lupus, something is causing the sores.

I would take her.

Hello Amy,

Here's my opinion on it as it can be inherited mine was from birth besides my younger sister who also as it...i add years of ailments seizures, strokes then being told i was born with cervical spondylosis and more and i did suffer over the years from 18yrs old and i'm now 45 coming, i was finally diagnosed in 2008 only through my skin kicking off badly.

If she was my daughter she'd be taken to be tested because if there is any signs of Lupus and meds being more advanced today, your daughter could have help and not having to go down the road i went being wrongly diagnosed with issues and pumped with loads of meds which had no connection to Lupus and made me worse for when i was diagnosed, then i'm told that everything i'd gone through Lupus had caused.

Hugs Terri :)

I would take her also. My dad died in many years ago and he also had ulcers in his nose as well

sores in his nose, he would treat them with vasaline as I can remember. I was diagnosed in 2010 but I would have loved to have the chance to get him tested for Lupus. His doctor has passed on

now but I would guess that's where my Lupus came from, as well as his brother has Mystenia Gravis. But we are talking 50 years ago or more. So now you have the chance, take her to the doctor and make sure its just a virus.

I have the same concern for my daughter who is almost 14. She has many vague symptoms that I don't think have manifested yet in an auto immune, but I get the sickest feeling in my stomach when I think of her potentially facing a life filled with the challenges of disease. I believe my auto immune was triggered by lyme disease, and I fear her little body is just waiting for the right virus or stress to rear its ugly head.

It scares me to death to think she may have it also. She has also complained all weekend of pain in her feet for no apparent reason. He nose sores were so bad they scabbed up and we had to treat with neosporin and Vaseline. It helped the ones at her nose opening but she still complains of sores further up in her nose. She also had her first nosebleed out of the blue this weekend.

Hello Amy,

It would scare any mother thinking your childs going to get this disease and i really feel for you.

Regarding the pain in her feet you need to get that checked as there's a few possiblities regarding it, some children are born with arthritis and it's also a gene of Lupus, Bursitis of the feet the link below explains or they could be just growing pains or something even less.

Amy i've add nose sores that have lasted for ages and spread furthur up the nostril and the vaseline can only do so much but regarding nose bleeds see if you can attend ENT as there's many issues which can cause this and here's 7 for starters, as she does need it checking out.

  • Sinusitis
  • Indoor Allergies
  • Lupus (SLE)
  • Hypertension
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Hay Fever
  • Nasal Polyps

My love and thoughts are with you Amy.....hugging emoticonTerri :)

I have my daughter an appointment with her pcp in the morning. She may think I’m crazy but that’s ok. Another mouth sore appeared today in the roof of her mouth. She has been through so much and just stabilized on her psychiatric drugs following being sexually assaulted last year.

Amy don't worry about what others think it's about putting your mind at rest.

Another mouth sore plus her nose...i'm not a doctor to diagnose but if she add got lupus we'd be saying to other's you've got a flare starting up, the quicker your daughters bloods can be tested the better with all these issues going on and i know the sores are stressing alone.

If you don't mind me asking what meds is she taking, if you don't want to mention them i quite understand and i'm so sorry to hear about her assault...now that worry could have triggered all this off she's going through.

She is on Seroquil and Lexapro. She just got the Nexplanon birth control implant last week at the recommendation of her shrink. Psych meds can cause serious damage to a fetus if she were to accidentally get pregnant. The nose sores have been going on now for over two weeks.

Amy i'm going to look these meds up and get back to you and if her shrink recommends she have the Nexplanon and she's ok with that well every bit of help with whats happened will help settle her mind alot better because it's alot she's going through and your worried to bits...just be careful you don't make your lupus symptoms worse stressing out. :)

My daughter started having some symptoms that I thought were indicative of autoimmune conditions. Her pediatrician thought he was going to pacify me by doing an ANA blood test. I didn’t want to sound like someone with Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, but I know that autoimmune disorders are inherited. Most of the time, for some reason, the next generation gets a different autoimmune disorder, but many of the symptoms overlap from condition to condition. I would err on the side of caution. Even if a diagnosis isn’t given, it is on record that she was tested.

Just left dr with daughter. Took 6 vials of blood and running the tests I asked for. Should hear from them in a few days.

I am so glad your doctor drew the blood hopefully every thing will come out ok. If something is found she will be starting treatment to help her Please let us no.

Hi Amy,

I'm wishing you both the very best of luck....Hugs Terri :)

Amy, i think.it was a good idea to get the blood work done. if anything does.show up at least possible needed treatment could be started early. i think.a.lot of us have more severe problems.because.there has been less knowledge of autoimmune syndromes in the past and treatment was started later in the progress of the disease.W

I will keep her in my prayers that the results show no abnormalities and you get good results. Healthy Hugs…~Maré

Well, the results are in. ANA Positive; titer 1:1280 with homogeneous and speckled patterns! Her doctor was in shock as she never expected anything to show up but was appeasing me by doing the labs. RA was negative and SED rate was normal. Just like mine. My rheumatologist is willing to see her so we are waiting on an appointment after all reports are submitted. I am heartbroken and anxious. I hate to see her having to deal with this. Right now the foot pain is really bothering her and she has to do so much walking in school. We will go get her some good tennis shoes this weekend to help with that. Any other suggestions to help her with the foot pain?

Hello Amy,

I am sorry to hear your daughter as it at such a young age to deal with but like Ann said protecting herself straight away and the right meds may help her.

With titer 1:1280 with homogeneous and speckled patterns...Sjogrens syndrome maybe involved also...so do put this forward as you need to know when you see the rheumo again and also ask the rheumo if she'll x-ray your daughters feet to make sure there's no other complications causing the foot pain.

The info below is for helping your feet and the link below shows shoes for all ages which help and are comfortable.

Wearing Proper Footwear

Special shoes, braces and shoe inserts may be prescribed by your doctor to help support, stabilize and cushion the foot and relieve symptoms. Gel toe caps and toe shields, shoes with a high and wide toe box, arch supports and custom-made braces are among the devices that may be suggested.
