Help with energy boost

Hi fellow Loopies!

Hope you all have a good week ahead!

Can anyone recommend something I can take for mental agility and physical energy?

I've also found that my memory is very poor. If I didn't write things down Im sure I'd forget my house number.

The other thing that happens to me frequently is that I forget words and sentences mid way. And no, I'm not old yet to suffer from these age related issues. Just 38, rearing to go on with life but hate being slow....I'm also afraid on the impact on my career. I'm in the legal field, I need to retain facts. I'm worried about this. I've read about lots of people (on the internet) complaining about memory loss and lupus.

Thanks!

I have these fears to since I am in education. I take B vitamins and read technological related material everyday. Good Luck!

I drink a small amount of coffee it has helped with mental clarity and gives me a little more energy…

This has been my problem. Because the lupus is attacking my brain I started with not being able to find words. Eventually this lead to what my dr called scanning speech. I am recovering my speech now and can speak normal most of the time. My neurologist has me taking magnesium for my brain. As far as the energy I would also like some ideas as mine is also really bad. I am hoping with time this will improve. Tons of hugs.

I’m an attorney with same issues. I take Modafinil. Works for all of those. If you can’t afford it, Adderall is comparable but has more side effects.

Ginkgo Biloba and/or ginseng help me a great deal. I am so much sharper and more active when I take them. I really notice a difference when I forget them. You can get pills that combine the 2, but its s much cheaper to buy them separately. Lately I have found ginkgo biloba to help me more, but each body is different.

Thanks for the question and the suggestions. Lupus also plays with my brain. I take seizure meds but still battle with thinking problems. I have found brain exercises (puzzles, sudoku, etc.) are improving my function slowly but surely. Push it. Exercise it. I also take B6 twice a day for energy, not in the evening tho. Disturbs sleep. I found ginkgo and gensing give me smashing headaches so no go on that. Keep the comments coming - helps me know I’m not making this up! I’m not alone!

Thanks! I'll let you know if I find my miracle connoction.

All the best.

Thanks, I'll watch out for the side effects of ginseng etc. Hope it doesnt affect me much, I am very prone to migraines. And nerve pain, often numbness and then an electric shock almost, but mostly on my right side. Odd.

Best of luck.

I take Modafinil as well, which I was fortunate enough to get my insurance to cover. It is the only thing that keeps me awake while I am up during the day. I drink coffee and take B vitamins as well. I also read and play word games. I still seem to be having problems with short-term memory though.

Some of our meds cause problems. I noticed that Cellcept caused cognitive problems for me and they stopped several weeks after I stopped. I took lyrica for just a couple weeks a few years ago and couldn’t even carry a conversation.
I also think gingko is good (but not if you take any blood thinners). Fish oil (specifically DHA) is good for brain and clarity. I am also still searching for help with energy.

I havent heard of Modafinil. What exactly is it? Im considering going for Vitamin B12 booster shots, I'll let you know if it helps. My memory is shot! I hate it because it makes me look and sound so inarticulate. Coffee is my constant companion, daily.

Hello, things I do to stay mentally alert include word games and puzzles, I drink a lot of water to stay well-hydrated, I try to eat small amounts of protein thru the day (such as nuts) so that my body stays well-fueled, and I actually decreased my caffeine. For me, I found caffeine was really contributing to sleep issues and once I got thru the vicious reduction in caffeine intake, I felt better all around. Also, when I feel like my brain is starting to get fuzzy, I will try to get up and walk around and focus on just one thing, that sometimes helps me. Anyway, there are a lot of good suggestions here from the others, I would just add that it is always a good idea to let your doctor know about any supplements you want to take or are taking, just to make sure they don't interact with your medications. Hugs.

Hi, it happens, but it comes back to you, just keep talking or whatever it is that you already doing , people only notice when you v stop n ask , What are we talking about or what are we doing. So take control of the he situation. …Beverly L.

i suggest playing brain games daily...do a crossword puzzle every day or many sites do have brain games as well.

Mahjong is easy one as well as others, sudoku. But sites like luminosity have games that really do help your brain power to improve.

I was really forgetful after being on too many brain drugs...anti anxiety drugs etc.. stuff i really did not need if i only took the time to relieve it in more natural ways...so i did wean myself off all them. Well my brain was lot like you are describing so started playing brain games and took just a week to see results! not kidding!!

Now i try to play one daily and more during the week as i can. Just a good idea to keep it working well. They also say reading helps...reading as in book or newspaper.

I hope this helps plus i enjoy doing them so not like it is torture! good luck!
