I am in college and am having a hard time being able to focus in class. I am so exhausted all them time even though I sleep 9 hours a night. I never feel good, so it is affecting the quality of my schooling. Nothing I try helps me in any way to make things better. I am DESPERATE at this point. Medications aren't helping me at all either, and I've tried 5 different kinds. I need help. Please? What do I do?
Ginkgo Biloba and/or ginseng has changed my lupus fog dramatically!! I can tell right away if I forget to take them in the morning. Don't give up after trying for just 1 or 2 days though. They seem to make you better and better after the first 7-10 days. I also took as many courses as possible through home study so I could save my strength for the classes I had to take at the college. I sure understand your frustration. Many with lupus have even had to lessen the amount of credits they take and spread out their education for a bit longer so they can care for themselves and not end up so sick that they have to quit altogether. Ill tell a friend here about your discussion, her name is Ann A. She is now a professor, has had a lifetime of college.
Best wishes!
I took as many classes online as I could. Have you had a sleep study done? I slept at night but wasn't getting restful sleep she found I did not have sleep apnea but my whole body would jerk at night. We changed some of my meds and it is much better now the fatigue and fog cleared up some after a couple of weeks.
AnnaA is a great lady you will really like her.
Remember to check with your doctor before starting any herb or supplement as they can interfere with some meds.
I am very lucky to have found a doctor that approves of some herbs and we discuss them and check for interactions/
Thank you Everyone! I unfortunately am not able to take online classes! I was offered a full ride scholarship, but am required to live on campus..... I am way over worked, and I just don't know what to do anymore. No medications have even slightly helped, and I've tried 5. I'm a biology major, so I need to be in classes. I just am having such a hard time with the fog and exhaustion that my 4.0 ( from before I got sick) went to a 3.2.... I need help. But I no longer know what to do.
I will try the ginseng.
I was about to respond to your post but read all of the really good advice you've already gotten. I learned something new in regards to the ginseng...I am now going to add that to the Omega 3 pills that I take to help with my fog which has significantly improved with the fish oil. Best...
Hi, hang in there …prayed go out to you…Beverly L.
I feel your pain. I bit the bullet and got on Adderall and it has helped immensely. My body metabolizes it really fast so I take the extended-release kind, and I carry the instant-release pills with me in case my day needs to be a little longer. I've been on it for 4 years with no side effects, and my dose is lower than what is given to people with the "hyper" sort of ADD. I'm in graduate school now and there's no way I'd be able to do this without medicinal help.
I'm not saying "go on Adderall" but I think there are many different medicinal aids that can be beneficial to students.
