Headaches - ugh

Hello all! Been having horrific headaches lately. Right side of face is numb. Neck is in agonizing pain. Head is in agonizing pain. Dizzy and nauseated. Blurred vision. even have face swelling. almost unbearable. nothing helps alleviate the pain except sleep, which is hard to do when you are in so much pain. Is this caused by lupus or are the headaches an anomaly? I appreciate any advice or words of wisdom.

thanks, Heather

I have terrible migraine headache. Have the same symptoms as yours. Not sure your case. The medication Imitex injection helps right away.
Good luck!

Heather,

Have you recently done anything that could have caused an injury to your neck? Are your headache's only on the one side as well - you stated that the right side of your face is numb. If so, you could be experiencing Migraine's. However, there is not generally facial swelling and numbness with migraine's. I have terrible migraine's that start in my neck and seem to travel upward, causing the migraine. I also get the blurred vision and nausea.

If it continues, I would definitely see the doctor about getting an MRI and discuss the possibility of seeing a neurologist. I am concerned about the numbness and swelling.

I hope you feel better soon,

Thank you for the responses. I have not injured my neck to my knowledge. They seem to come on when i am very tired. I have not been able to sleep much the last two nights. also some stress with teenagers. :-( Headache is mostly all on right side. some pain spreads to whole neck. numbness, tingling sensation is on right side of face and neck. Last night it was really bad - worst Ive ever had. I am hesitant to call the Rheumy. I dont know what they want to know and what they dont. Ive called before and all they really do is write it down in my chart...

Stress with teenagers? Surely you jest. : ) I would check with a neurologist and get an MRI. My husband found that it was a very small aneurysm that was causing his.

If it’s migraines, you really should see a headache specialist, if possible. I dealt with chronic migraines daily, with debilitatingly painful migraines striking at least every two weeks. Topiramate (Topamax) knocked the severity and frecuency down a lot, but it took about 3 weeks to kick in. I also have Sumatriptan (Imitrex) tablets, which I take at the beginning of a migraine to prevent it from getting worse; I only have to take it once or twice a week.

I think it would be good for your rheumy to know about the migraines, but you should see a neuro of some sort about it.

This is a great link. I should take it to my neurologist because when I mentioned some of these symptoms to him - and he did diagnose me with migraines - he told me I was just depressed. I really do think you need to have that MRI.
