New dx of lupus

thanks to all of you who have welcomed me to this group. I have been dx with sjogrens for 3 years and mixed connective diease. Was tested for lupus however it was negative 3 years. i developed RA and Raynauds last year -2012. Started Plaqunil in January of this year and now have a diagnosis of Lupus. I follow a gluten free food program, yeast free and sugar free. Does anyone have any sugguestion as to how to slow the progression of these autoimmune dieases?

Hi :) and welcome! I am a newbie, as well, however, have read quite a bit. Some feel changing your diet and eliminating certain foods can be beneficial as well as different types of meds depending on what works for you. You will find this to be an extremely supportive group. I have met wonderful people on this site as I am sure you will, too. I have a question for you ... I, too, have multiple autoimmune diseases, however, even with a lot of the symptoms the doc does not want to say I have Lupus yet ... what happened to make your doctor give you the diagnosis? I am just curious .. Thank you!!

I recently went to my eye doctor for my follow up and she found out that i now have glacoma. however it in not pressure in the eye itself but in the optic nerve. this type of glacoma is inhereitied. i followed up with my immunologist and told her of the recent diagnosis of glacoma. i also told her of my second bout with sores in my mouth and sensitivity to the sun. I thought the sun sensitivity was due to the plaquinil. she ran some labs and called me to tell me that i was being refered to a rheumatologist due to lupas(ana) test being positive. I took the same test 3 years ago and it was negative.

I am so sorry for all you are going through. My ANA continues to be negative with other issues being positive .. that is why I was curious. Well, you are definitely in the right place. Welcome, again!

I have found the biggest factor in my disease process is stress. I don't know if stress can completely be eliminated (always a recommendation of my docs), but stress reduction seems to help. I have also found that educating myself on my diagnoses and finding support, such as this forum very helpful. One of my docs says "no rhyme or reason" (which I can't accept) - everything has a cause. Wish you good health in the days to come! :-)
