My husband has been pushing me to buy this drink that is on TV that mainly contains glucosamine and chondroitin.
The drinks are very expensive, and I don’t know if they would really help.
The people that all swear they are healed have arthritis, but I have not heard anything about lupus or other Autoimmune diseases.
I’m having a hard time finding info online and wondered if anyone had any info.
My thought is if drinking a can of something for $5 a can can actually diminish your lupus symptoms, then everyone would already be talking about it.
It really is for arthritis associated with joint damage- which wouldn't help with lupus pain. If you have osteoarthritis in addition to your lupus it may help with the joint pain
Glucosamine Chondroitin Triple Strength 750 mg & 600 mg ( 2 tabs once a day ) Because my husband pushed me into it. He swears by it. I asked my Dr about it & she said "it can't hurt" So I take it. Not sure if it helps or not but it makes my husband happy to think he is helping me in some way. I know he often feels helpless when I hurt.
If you decide to take it, I would recommend the tablets as a less expensive alternative to the liquid. I've read the labels and the generic brands are the same as the name brands, just a lot less expensive.
Studies have shown that glucosamine and chondroitin are helpful in particular with knee osteoarthritis, but not conclusive about other joints last I read. It is most helpful to use when joint damage is not severe. If you don't digest efficiently, you can always powder the tablets (sold as a combo or separately) and put into a homemade smoothie or shake.
Note to those who are allergic to shellfish or the kinds of contrast dye used for radiology procedures and heart caths - can cause a serious reaction! Glucosamine can be either lab formulated or made from seashells. Glucosamine hydrochloride is the salt version. The version found naturally in joint fluid is glucosamine sulfate. This is the preferred form of glucosamine for arthritis supplements. Beware of it if though if you have any issues with sulfates.
If on medications, please check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure it is safe to combine with your meds. Always better to educate yourself and err on the side of caution than do damage control later.
