I have had the symptoms for 4 years but was diagnosed a month ago. My period was always regular. Im 25 years old now. But I had a seizure 6 months ago, had my period like normal about a week after the seizure (I turned out fine, seems like it’s just a one-time thing brought on by a medicine). But now it’s been 5 months and I haven’t had one period. Not even little spots of blood, nothing, just stopped. And I haven’t been sexually active for one year. Does anybody experience anything like this or have any knowledge or insight as to why this is happening? I’m starting to get really concerned. I don’t see my doctor for another month or so. So he doesn’t know yet. Help?
Hi Emily,
Lupus has not stopped my cycle. I think if you loose a lot of weight that it can stop your cycle and the more I learn about lupus I believe anything is possible. It may be related or caused by something else not related. It is good that you are going to see your doctor about this. Hoping the best for you, Meg
Hi Emily,
Actually, this is not as unusual as you may think. Remember, lupus can affect any organ including your uterus and tubes.
Although, as it's been said significant weight loss can affect your period, I have lost nearly 60 lbs. That said, I went almost 3 months of continual period...now nothing for nearly 5 months. It's perplexing and without a doubt something you need to get a referral (if nec) to an ob/gyn soon. Some of the meds can in fact mess a bit with your hormones, especially if you are on Prednisone, which a hormone. It may need some adjustments to your meds and hopefully that should work well.
I do hope that you feel better soon.
