The cold air over most of the US is showing up on satellites where they usually see clouds. Dear fellow Lupies, Dress warmly. This is the time for your long underwear. If you do not have long undies then find some other way to layer. This is dangerous. Take care of yourself. This is no joke.
IF YOU ARE NEW TO LUPUS, THEN YOU MAY BE NEW TO LEARNING HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. PLEASE DRESS WARMLY.
Hope every one is staying warm...and yes layering is very important.....yesterday I wore my pajamas under my fleece sweats because it was -3 degrees below zero here yesterday morning when I woke up and our power was off BRRR !!! Thank goodness the power was only off for about an hour !!!
We had one frozen water pipe even after we had left all the faucets dribbling all night .... my sweet husband worked out under the house most of the day thawing pipes .....and our high temperature yesterday was only 12 degrees........and yesterday afternoon we discovered ( the hard way ) that the drain to the washing machine had frozen up too .........we had a geyser hit the ceiling and run down the wall and flood the utility room........thank goodness I had only ran a small/medium load !!! So my sweet husband had to go back out into the cold to get the shop vac to clean up that mess..........what a day !!!!!!! I will have plenty of laundry to do when that drain finally thaws !!!The temperature this morning was 4 degrees, and we have power and water.......so PRAISE THE LORD !!! Looks like it is gonna be a better day than yesterday !!!
Stay warm, wear layers, and keep a quilt or blanket and warm gloves nearby. Be careful and get plenty of rest too.....
I live in Minnesota, so at least this isnt too abnormal for us. We had -27 with a wind chill -56 a couple days ago. But for the most part we love it here. And layers are important, wool socks,we keep blankets etc in the car, flashlights and batteries. But I do really feel for people who havent't experienced anything like this, it would be hard! Take care everyone and we always tell ourselves, this too shall pass :)
In Indiana it was -15 with a windchill of -35 yesterday. I went out only to take the dog potty, and I've never seen her pee so fast! It was so cold, it affected her feet and I scooped her up and raced back inside. I had my gloves on and my hood up around me as snug as I could. We are not used to that kind of cold, it was dangerous. Brings back more aches and pains than I've had. I was putting my hand in my coat sleeve - and it touched the joint on my pinkie finger and caused a new pain so intense I cried out.
I really feel a bit guilty living in Ca. where it is going to be cool tomorrow in the mid 60's! It has been 75 and 80! I did
however grow up around Chicago and lived through similar snow and freezing ice storms. I can remember our schools being closed quite often because of the snow or power problems. I don't think I could handle it anymore as I get so cold here when the sun goes down.
I hope it warms up for all of you freezing very soon! I do think about how hard it must be with lupus added to the mix!!
Ok, I do start to hate the sun here as I have the photo sensitivity too! Virginia sounds beautiful to me! I will probably stay here forever because of my husbands work. I will deal with it and my children are here too.
Maybe someday I can take a trip to the East, haven't been there in years!
All I have to say is I Hate cold weather. I hurt terribly when it gets cold. We were at -11 Tuesday, and I have to admit I spent most of the day in bed medicated for pain.
