Chest infection

See your Dr & have him decide how to treat it. You can get pneumonia easier with Lupus due to immune suppression

If there is anyone that's got the info, it's Terri. She is a font of info.

Update: I woke up today with less pain so I think it’s sorting itself out   my chest feels so much better than yesterday… All I’ve had to deal with today is a headache and brain fog. Took me a while to wake up and get rid of the grogginess aswell… If its not one thing it’s another!! Just can’t seem to shake all my symptoms at once I just want to feel normal for a day…

Hello Cayleigh,

Thank you for updating we all and your news sounds better but still keep an eye on yourself because if it does re-occur then i would see your GP.

The headaches and brainfog are a nightmare but i am pleased you managed to shake off your groggyness.

Hugs Terri xxx

Does pleurisy pain come and go?? because my chest seems to hurt on and off its hurting again but it diddnt earlier…

Glad to hear it dear. Was it you asking about bowel issues the other day? I meant to mention probiotics to you. About 70 percent of our immune system is in our digestive track and we need to keep it in line to stay healthy. They can be bought over the counter. I know it works because I have IBS bad and haven’t had any issues with it since starting.

The lung thing is my problem. I know I am about to ne hospitalized again and I’m so not happy. I keep hacing terrible asthma flares and treatments aren’t helping. I am trying to wait until after my daughters concert tonight. If they miss it they fail the class and I won’t have that. It will be ok though. Just doing what I can until it’s over.

Stay on top of that headache. I used to get Floricet for my migraines. It works so well but doctors are a littleweiry about giving it because it contains barbituites. Not sure if that is correct spelling. You can try really strong coffee, if you drink it. I am not sure if you can have NSAIDS or not. I can’t because of my kidneys but if you can then I suggest Excedrine Migraine. Good luck dear.

Hi Cayleigh,

When i had my pleurisy the pain slowly developed over my shoulder blades and my back and then bad chest pains started i did'nt mess about and soon got an ambulance and the one time i had it joint with pneumonia and i never felt a day without it until i was treated in hospital.

I still think you should see a doctor about it because it can cause other problems and left to long fluid can build up in the lungs and can become more dangerous to your health besides causing clots in the lungs.

To help you furthur with it this link is great on really explaining about it....please see someone :)

O right I do get pain near my shoulders… I will try make an appointment but the problem is my doctors always so busy… I have probiotics aswell they really do help I have actimel every day.

Cayleigh that's where it started with me and i thought at first it was shoulder pain but when it started hitting my back and got stronger in my chest which felt like i was going to have an heart attack that's how bad it gets i was soon on the phone living on my own at the time.

Never mind your doctor pleazzzzzz go to the hospital because the lungs can get bad and there's a chance clots could develope.

Please take our advice and go, i know hospitals are a nightmare but we can't ever afford to neglect issues.

Hugs to you Terri :) xxx

Tez does eating and drinking cold things make pleurisy feel worse?? Because my chest hurts more when I eat and drink cold things… Thanks for all your advice so far you really know your stuff   xxxx

Hi Cayleigh,

Drinking water won't hurt you or cold foods as long as your able to get them down ok...i could only absorb soups with mine, it's all down to the pain and how tight your chest feels when swallowing also besides coughing occuring...i do know i had to keep off my cups of tea though it because it makes you more chesty where the milks concerned.

This info and diagram is about pleurisy and shows where your affected with it mainly.

Pleurisy, also called pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleura, which is the moist, double-layered membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the inside of the rib cage. The condition can make breathing extremely painful. Sometimes it is associated with another condition called pleural effusion, where excess fluid fills the area between the membrane's layers.

Pleura (Covering of the Lungs)

The double-layered pleura protects and lubricates the surface of the lungs as they inflate and deflate within the rib cage. Normally, a thin, fluid-filled gap - the pleural space - allows the two layers of the pleural membrane to slide gently past each other. But when these layers become inflamed, with every breath, sneeze or cough their roughened surfaces rub painfully together like two pieces of sandpaper.

In some cases of pleurisy, excess fluid seeps into the pleural space, resulting in pleural effusion. This fluid build-up usually has a lubricating effect, relieving the pain associated with pleurisy as it reduces friction between the membrane's layers. But at the same time, the added fluid puts pressure on the lungs, reducing their ability to move freely. A large amount of fluid may cause shortness of breath. In some cases of pleural effusion, this excess liquid can become infected.

It sounds like it could be gaul bladder related. When you swallow, your duct contracts and secretes bile but if you are having issues then it will hurt durimg this. I have hurt in my chest and all the way to my spine with pain from this. A simple xray or CT scan will show if there are any stones or blockage.

Terri,

Right back atcha sweetie. I know you have been having a hard time but know that I am thinking of you and wishing you all the best.

XOXO,

DeAnne

Cayleigh,

If you are still having difficulty breathing, time to get to urgent care or hospital. The longer the symptoms the better the chance it can take hold in your lungs or heart.

Update soon,

DeAnne

Update: my chest no longer hurts it only hurts every now and then… My doctors are I available untill Monday and it is Saturday today but I am coping fine so I can wait… Obviously if the pain becomes more frequent or hurts alot ill go to a&e   thanks for all your caring comments I really appreciate them I’m just really nervous when it comes to doctors because for 3 years before my diagnosis they made out everything was in my head and I was crazy :frowning: :frowning: I find it hard to trust them

Hi, sorry that this is happening to you. Go to the ER , as soon as you can!! At lest they will give you some antibodies . Then make a appointment with your doctor, ASAP!, good luck …Beverly L.
