Right now I have a light pink rash going across my cheeks and nose. But before and normally I get a very red, angry rash, which is what my derm saw pictures of and what she believes to be a lupus rash. She wants a biopsy to rule in/out lupus. The red rash is gone because I got cortisone shots in my shoulder a couple weeks ago, it cleared the rash right up.
Question being, can the light pink skin be biopsied? Or should I wait for the angry red rash to pop up again?
Do they do a skin biopsy on the face? When I had mine done it was from my elbow. Really not sure, simply a question. I would think that any rash would mean you are still in flare, that the cortisone injection you had possibly overflowed into your blood stream (not uncommon) and therefore alleviated your symptoms for the time being, but given you still have some rash, suspect you may still be in flare? I am not a Dr, just my thoughts…..Perhaps this is a better question for your general practitioner?
Mine was done on my neck, below my ear lobe. I was in a flare and my flares spread to my neck, forehead, & scalp. From what I understand, the lupus will show even if it is light…doesn’t hurt to ask your doctor!
I am having a in and out biopsy on mail on Friday March 3rd on and through my upper lip. I thought. It was just my. Lupus. The Dr. said "Just how much cancer have you had?" So what happened? I went into Lupus tailspin. I got a sinus infection,, and then a UTI, with an extremely high fever. After my worry, I might not not even be able to have the biopsy.
Be very careful. With lupus it takes long for our skin to heal. I was biopsied found tumid lupus. Mucus in my skin made it so difficult to heal. Took more than a year for it to do so. And that was after surgery and a wound vac for 6 weeks. Pls make sure whoever is doing this knows what they are doing…pls take care
Derm says to come in when the red rash is there. But now it sounds like maybe that might not even work? So what's the point? They want to biopsy my face and I'm not to crazy about that idea. I know it's going to leave a scar.
artchick, thanks!!! That's my husband's knickname for me. ;)
