Speaking

So I was told that I would be a great public speaker and a great inspiration to many from all I have gone through. I really got to thinking could I really do that? So I am looking at speaking to close friends and family about this journey and the effects of a chronic illness.

I was wondering if you all know of some good books or websites with great information on chronic illness/pain?

Thanks!!!!

Toastmasters.

Great idea!!!!

if you want to do public speaking, check out Toastmasters.org!
I've been a member for 3 years.

I speak to groups of patients at Lupus/ MS/ Myositis education days and I've even done events for healthcare workers and nurses. If you have an experience strength and hope, and practical tips they can apply, it's a very rewarding experience to share peer to peer.

I started out just speaking to local lupus support groups for free.I honed my talk, figured out what I wanted to say, gained confidence, and got better at speaking. And I helped some people see, just by being there and having something to say, we aren't useless just because we have lupus.

Check out Toastmasters! They've been around since the 1920s and have a great system in place for learning to speak effectively. at the toastmasters.org website, there's a link that says "find a club." You put in your ZIP code and get a bunch of choices (hopefully, unless you live in the middle of nowhere). I tried 2-3 clubs before I settled on one. I visit other clubs sometimes too. Can't say enough good things about it.

oh also check out Judy Carter's book The Message of You.

It'll help you define what you want to say.

AWESOME book on developing your speech. I'm working through it now with a buddy. (it has exercises in it)

Thank You so much!!!!! :)

Great idea Louters! You can really speak from your heart. :)
