Reactions to Sun?

I was just wondering how each of you react to the sun?

After this holiday weekend, even after trying to stay in the shade and wearing 70+ sunblock, I am feeling horrible. Massive joint pain, EXTREME exhaustion, headaches and super nauseous.

Hugs..Jenn

i get all those things too when i go in the sun :( :( its horrible so i always stay out of it now i hate how it reacts to me so i avoid at all costs!! when its sunny im inside or darting in and out of places as quickly as possible...

Same for me, except the nasea. The joint pain, and the extreme exhaustion is awful. The weather has been on a roller coaster here, sun then rain and storms. I have been miserable this past week.

Some days I’m affected more than others and I’m not sure why that is. For example I went to a concert on Saturday at Heinz Field which is an outdoor stadium. The sun was absolutely killer but I wore plenty of sunblock and I kept myself well hydrated but I thought for sure that I was going to still end up paying for it. Surprisingly I didn’t end up feeling that badly except for some exhaustion and a slightly pink face because my face is more sensitive to the sun. Other times I end up with the joint pain, the exhaustion and wicked sunburn no matter how much sunblock I use and I won’t even be in the sun that long. I dunno it’s weird.

Did you remember your hat?

I'm in the same boat. I found that sunblock 85 or higher is the only one that staves off the redness that will eventually appear on my face just a little longer than other sunblocks. I don't get too nauseous, but I too experience the extreme fatigue and joint pain and headaches after too much time in the sun. Of course, rainy days make me feel terrible too, so what to do?

I try and sit outside early of a morning and late of an evening. I always wear a hat out and try not to go out during the bright part of the day. The sun always drains me and I get a butterfly rash on my face. thankfully I work 12 hours so I miss the sun during the day.

I cant be out in the sun very much because when those rays hit my arm they automatically feel like they are burning. When I sweat (were talking buckets) and get to hot then I will get a headache and feel tired.

That is the one thing I didn't remember! I hate hats but I try to put my feelings about them aside to protect myself that is when I remember to wear one.

I get very sleepy, have trouble breathing, fast heartbeat, achey, headache, blurry vision and my head feels thick kind of like brain fog. I used to lay out in the sun to ease my aches and pains before I knew about lupus. I liked the warmth on my skin. It reminded me of a heating pad.

Thanks for all your replies! Goes back to the 'is what I'm feeling normal' question I feel like I have all the time. I've had reactions before, but never this strong. I'm still feeling it, and it's been three days. I even got sick at work yesterday. Just not fun.

I get much the same reactions but I have found a way to be in the sun a few hours at a time. I went to Acadamy and got spf 100. When I get out of the shower I coat with 70 sph, I bought a huge floppy hat and a bathing suit coverup that has arms. Once outside I apply the spf 100 and wear the hat and the coverup. I can usually stay out 2-4 hours so long as I am relaxing and not over doing it. That evening I'm exhausted but the next day I typically feel ok.
