I have had pleurisy several times. It will go away but can be a common issue with some people with Lupus. Typically steroids kick in pretty quick. Please rest…and take it easy. Pleurisy can be so
painful. Know you are not alone:heart::heart:.

Pleurisy is one of my problems, prednisone dose pack always knocks it out, in my case I get it quite often its inflamation in the lining of the lungs all you can do is rest and take it easy they don't know what causes it or how to prevent it hope you start feeling better soon.

I also have had to deal with issues of pleurisy. I have had it 3 times and it seems each time gets a let worse than the last one.

I was a smoker when I got mine. I quit smoking a little over 2 years ago and haven't had it since. Thank God for that!

Even if you are not a smoker, stay away from those who do smoke. Hope you feel better soon.

thank you oh so much hopeful for you response also, yes the pednisone surprised me how bit better I felt njte from hospital. Also its been 3 years ago I was taken off slowly from 2 years worth off daily pednisone. I now understand pros and cons of it and understand why so many of us swear by it. so again thanks for your wishes and fast reply and you have a blessed day vegasgorl.

hey nahanie, wow your response got me when you related you smoked. Well im almost embarresed too tell you I do and newports menthols on top of it. I smoke half pack a day ( couldn't while going thru first and second day of pleurisy) yes im ashamed cause I know better and refuse to put it down. Its the only vice I deal with .cancer runs in family and I live with mother who doesn't allow smoking in home although I don't even like smelly smoke home clothes etc . And to be honest I stopped going to a pulminologist due to his continual asking me to try to quit. Im on abuteral suppose to use Spiriva diskette and one other diskette daily stopped the two but use abuteral daily. while in the e.r. other night I know they had concerns for my lvels oxygen were low they did the breathing tx. which helped emencilly and had oxygen up nostils . so my question is/ HOW DID YOU ACCOMPLICE YOUR FEAT? Did you use patch, or use less and less?, or just quit/ thanks for reply and sorry to go-on but I think the scare of pleurisy actually gives me something to go for with this cigarette addiction. Also they say or ive heard over the years its harder then kicking a heroin addiction now that's scary. have a blessed day vegasgirl......

Each person responds differently to meds or no meds regarding pleurisy. I’ve had a super bad case and ended up in the ER. I felt like it was a heart attack. After all the tests, they couldn’t find anything and thought of pleurisy. After pain meds and calming down from pain, I’ve not had one that bad and its been about 8 months. However, I will tell u that almost everyday I feel some sort of pain on my left side. Sometimes I know it’s there and just move in another position or I jump because it comes out of no where. I’m one of those who refuse to take prednisone for this issue. I can usually take the pain and I know that trying to deal with it is better than being on a med that causes other side affects? As well as bloating and weight gain

wow poker face you totally decribed to the tee exactly what I experienced in the e.r. they found nothing on the xrays so they said pleurisy. and kept me tikk I was calmed and sent me home to follow up with my pcp. Im wondering if I should seek out a pulmonary dr. seems like mypcp should be of help with this. did you also have a cough with phelph coming up? I cant get rid of cough and it still hurts on my left side even a day later im only on day 2 of meds so guess its taking a bit. thanks for yourreply have a great day.glad you didn't have a recurrence also.

I have had it 4 times in 25 years hope to never have again. Even with meds it takes days to get any relief. Feel better soon.

hey ranae thanks for reply, wow glad to hear you havnt dealt with this lately yor spot-on I got relief first night I think it was combo of iv pain relievers in er and breathing txs they gave but its day 3-4 and im taking the 50mg prednisone and 500mg naproxen and my side still hurts and coughing a lot which im doubling over and holing my left side so gosh I thought with a dose of 50mg prednisone id be out of all pain by now? also I have a follow-up with my pcp Friday and ill assume he will refer me to pulmonary dr. thanks again have a great day vegas girl

I have terrible chronic pleurisy. I'm in a flare-up of it right now. Yes!! It is almost impossible to breath!! It does get better, it just takes time, yes it's miserable in the mean time! I get help at the ER if it gets really really bad, otherwise I suffer it out. At the ER all they can do is give me oxygen to help with that a little, a steroid shot, and pain meds (though rarely given). I have already had to up my steroids by 70% it's pretty frustrating!
