I was just diagnosed with Lupus last month. I was just wondering, what kind of tests should I be receiving? Should I automatically go to a neurologist, etc? I have been having alot of anxiety and I am not sure if it is just because I was diagnosed or the lupus is effecting my brain. I did have anxiety before I was diagnosed, but just not sure if it is a symptom of the lupus or just anxiety.
It's mostly just blood work every 6 months to a year, determined by your rheumatologist. Organ involvement can show up in blood work and is often the first sign that warrants us a trip to a specialist or rheum or GP.
Megan (Ballerina) is correct if you have any organ involvement it shows in your bloods and if anything occurs then usually a biopsy is done to see how bad an organ is.
Well like Ann said it's always a Rheumo first, then if skin issues arise it's a Dermo and neuro's often become involved as Lupus stems from the central nervous system (CNS)
Anxiety i've add for years and that stems from depression to what form you have it...regarding depression it does make Lupus symptoms worse as Lupus thrieves off it.
The most important thing of all is always make sure you have a good GP also who you can respond with well.
Thank you so much for the information! A rheumatologist diagnosed me and they said I don't have organ involvement, but I was concerned about the brain and anxiety. I really appreciate the information. I think that my anxiety is just high because of the lupus dx.
Also, Ann I am on Plaquenil 400 mg a day. I was on Predisone for the first couple weeks when I was diagnosed.

Your welcome from us all and that's what we're here for to help one another where the disease is concerned and not long being diagnosed any links or info sent your way read because where Lupus is concerned we need all the knowledge we can get on the disease and before you was put on plaquenil which i'm on also, did you get past by an opthamalogist first to make sure your eyes was ok for the drug. :)
