Hi again guys. I feel like i keep coming to you for advice about medications but it's always comforting to have your support and thoughts as you've gone through the same things.
My rheumy has prescribed me 1000mg of Naprosyn (naproxen) on top of my prednisone, methotrexate, folic acid, aspirin, some pill to protect my stomach lining and everything else (lol). I was just wondering has anyone tried Naproxen for lupus symptoms and had any luck? how about the side effects?
1000mg a day is a lot to me, so i'm a bit nervous.
xx
Hi, Naproxen was the first thing my Doctor put me on along with Tylenol for Arthritis. It seemed to help the pain a bit but to be honest I got so tired I couldn’t function so I went off them both.i can handle pain but I can’t handle having no energy. Other than that I didn’t notice any side effects. I ate a lot of yoghurt and bananas to help protect my stomach. Best wishes to you and good luck!
Thank you for sharing your story. Fatigue is a bit of a pain. I guess we'll see how i go. xx
Hi there all. Happy memorial day! I am a stomach sensitive person, for years prior to my lupus diag. After several oral surgeries and other surgeries, I can’t take ibruprofen more than once a day, and can’t hake naproxen, and after surgeries tylenol does nothing. So doc gives me pain med. no more than 2 tabs a day if needed, now that I went back on plaquenil my symptoms, besides fatigue, have been much better. I am also gluten free, finding gf meds is difficult. Have a great day!
unfortunately i am allergic to plaquenil. but there's lots of other medications out there to try i guess.
Hi ShadowFigment,
I tried Naproxen and Omeprezole, this is a generic substitution for a name brand. I only tried this for a short time, and got frustrated with taking it twice a day and so many more pills. I went back to Meloxicam 1 pill once a day. The Naproxen just didn't help my pain like the Meloxicam does for me.
Naproxen does help me. I did have stomach issues if I didn’t eat with it. The only other OTC med that has helped is Aleve.
hi i take 1000 mg of naproxen with 100mg of oxycodone and 500mg of tramadol and i also take the tablets for stomach they help but not all the time i went for a camera in stomach few weeks ago and they took some biopsies i was told white cells were found im rather nervous about this have any of yous had this discovery thanks sharon xx
I used to take this, but it didn’t work for me. I now take 600mg. of ibuprofen which usually works for my aches. If I have a bad headache I take Tylenol in addition to the ibuprofen.
My pre-autoimmune disease (maybe Lupus, maybe not) experience with Naproxen (before Aleve) included very itchy hives. They appeared mostly on my forearms, hands, behind my knees and on my scalp. Just something you might watch for.
Hello!, this med., caused nose blending for me. I tried to take it before the prednisone. It was no help for me at all. The pain was still there , the there was no relief at all. So going to the doctor visit , telling him about this nose bleeding , he put me on the prednisone. The bleeding stopped for good and that was at the very beginning,in 2011. I hope that your doctor find the right meds. for you soon …Beverly L.
Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. I took my first dose of Naproxen today, so we'll see how we go.
Naproxen was one of the first meds I was placed on for the joint aches. I don't remember the exact dose, but it was somewhere up near 1000mg. It took about a week or two to fully kick in. I didn't have much of an issue with it, just had to make sure I took it with food. It helped a bit, but then I came out of the flare at that time and stopped taking it because I didn't hurt as bad. Hope it helps!
