Methotrexate

I have recently been put on Methotrexate -4 pills once a week. I chose Tuesday’s so I would have to push thru to go to work. I wanted to save the weekends for my family. I would love to hear of your experience with this medication. So far it exhausts me and makes me really nauseous any advice appreciated!

Are you taking Folic Acid with it? Usually it is prescribed with methotrexate to help mitigate the nausea. Not sure if this applies to methotrexate, as I never had nausea problems with it, but with another chemo drug (Imuran), I had originally taken it in the mornings, but found sweet foods (as in, nearly EVERYTHING breakfast related, ugh) made me sick to my tummy. So I adjusted it to taking it at night, and that helped resolve that problem.

I've been taking methotrexate for over a year now. I started out low, but am currently taking the max dose (I believe) of ten pills once a week. No fun to think about, but it definitely improved things for me, so it's hard to complain, heh. Best of luck with it!

I found the first month or so I would be worn out and nauseated the day after taking the pills. I found the side effects lessened a little each week until finally I had no side effects. Good luck!

I found that I was tired and nauseous for a couple days after taking methotrexate. The higher my dose got the more nauseous I was. When I was on the max of 10 pills a week I was nauseous more than not so they switched me to injectable 1ml a week. The injectable is so much better for me and does not come with the nausea I still am tired for a couple days after but when am I not tired I guess so the trade off was worth it. If the nausea continues talk to your doctor about Zofran it was a lifesaver for me when I was on the pills and working. Good luck to you.

Thank y’all! Very helpful
