I"m on so many meds/vitamins I had to get a pill container (like my grandma) to keep up with them all. However i'm still having a hard time keeping them all down. Any suggestions?
i take a minimum of 12 meds a day, so I put mine in a pill minder box that has the 7 days of the week separated into morning and night. So, every Monday, I sit down with my "happy bucket" (holds all my pill bottles) and refill my weekly minder container. That's the easiest way I have found especially when dealing with Lupus fog. ; )
I use a seven day pill minder that has Morning, Noon, Evening and Bed sections for each day. I fill it once a week and then I don't have to worry if I forgot something. The routine helps with meds taken on a varied schedule and the medicines that don't fit in the little boxes (like nasal sprays, eye drops) which I set out on the counter each day plus the numerous supplements I take - AM (vitamin D drops, omegas, B-12, calcium) PM - CALM. When I have a flare and meds change I make a chart (like they do in the hospital) and check things off as I take it (usually steriods, zantac) It isn't pleasant to need to do this, but a little time spent setting up a system that works for you makes it less worrisome. I've been doing this for over 20 years and it works! I know you will find a system that works for you - try to avoid comparing yourself to others in terms of age/meds needed - your unique needs must be met - in time it won't seem so burdensome. Thank goodness these medications exist and can help you!
I’ve tried pill boxes, but I don’t like them because I’m not sure which pill is what. I now make an AM and PM list of daily medications, vitamins and supplements and put a check next to whatever I take. I do this especially when my brain fog is acting up. I don’t take the same amount of pills everyday. I base that decision on if I’m trying to fight an infection of some sort.
Hello Torie,
Pill boxes are good as i use them and to work out the best time on taking meds and putting the right dose in your body wheather it being meds or vitamins...this should be worked out best with your GP.
I can't hold meds down with water as several repeat on me badly so i use yakcult of a morning and the rest through the day with milk although you should.
Torie this link gives 12 steps to taking meds and keeping them down...i hope it helps :) Terri
i completely understand the moment when your life resembles your grandmothers. I officially cried the dayi realized I needed a large siplock for the bottles. Or when I walked my purse sounded like a change machine. LOL. horrible.
Most people My age dont talke more than tylenol or a daily vitamin. (still learning NOT to compare myself to others my age.... makes me an emotional little booger)
but yes all the suggestions were great. depending on your personality, writing it down afterwards...
personally do not like to take my pills out of the bottles- for fear of mix up.
So i take what i need to at home after breakfast.
The remaining pills during the day go in my purse. Add all evening meds stay home with breakfast ones.
So i dont sould like a change machine while at work.
Doing the same thing all the time is best for your system.
The one's harder to hold down need to be taken with your largest meal.
when i was pregnant i was so sick- but i had to take the vitamin that would gaurantee i threw up.
I only took it at night. right before i slept- to keep the queeziness down.
so consider each pill = then you will know what time of day to take it.
Seven day pill holder works best except iforget to fill it....don't tell the wife it drives her crazy...lol
I take not only my meds for Lupus, but also for a previous back injury. I have tried the pill minders, but forget over and over to take them.
I separate my meds into 1/day and put those in a small bowl. The ones I take multiple times I place in a different small bown. I put ONLY the maximum amount of my pain medications and the prescribed amount my Lupus meds in the bowl. I take the lupus meds upon waking, when I eat lunch, and at bed time.
This works well for me, as I am not very good at always keeping an eye on the time.
Again, this works well for me but may not work for everyone.
Perhaps a combo of all of the suggestions may work for you.
Best of luck,
DeAnne
I refil mine daily. I have am (after breakfast), nn (after lunch), 4 pm and night time (after dinner). I have a reminder which pill i need to take on what time. I set my cell phone’s alarm so i won’t forget.
Most of my meds are two times a day so I take them with breakfast and dinner. I haven't had any trouble keeping them down since I take them with food. I just keep my pill bottles lined up, but I have a feeling I'll be needing a pill case soon.
we are maintaining a diary, where the details of pills, vitamins, food details, pain details are entered. This we are doing for the past three months. This handy for me to findout the pain causing foods also.
Karthik.
Excellent idea Karthik. Sounds like lots of work, but will hopefully provide some answers.
Thank everyone for their input... I think the best way for me is to keep the pill container but get a bigger one. My mom suggested that I break up times for when I take certain pills. Like she suggested that I take the fish oil at lunch by itself and continue the others in the morning and night. Thanks again guys, I hate that you all have it but it's nice having someone to share this with.
Hi Rob,
I fill mine every sunday night after my last lot of meds for the night...so get your socks pulled up.lol

Hello, let your doctor know about this as soon as possible, I expreniced this at first ,we (me and the doctor ),came up with different times of the day to take the meds., taking so many at one time will make you sick. Depending on what you are taking ,am quite sure the two of you can find a way to help you, even if mean that you have to take the more important ones early I’m the morning then eat something and a couple of hours then take the other pills ,and before bed take the others with dinner!! Maybe that will work? Hope that something of that natuer helps. But don’t forget to let your doctor know what is going on…Beverly L.
Thanks all, I got it all under control… I take some at breakfast, lunch and dinner and I’m holding them down pretty well… #HappyPiller
