Low BP & Can't Talk

Hello All,

Yesterday I seemed to be a normal day, until I got sick on my stomach. Then about 4 hrs. later. I started feeling like I was about to pass out. I started sweating and getting chills, then my throat started to hurt, and I could not talk or push air out through my mouth. I had to sit down and started to take deep breaths through my noise, and tried to push air out through my mouth. I started to get my breathing back to normal. But then I started having pain in my lower back and hips. My BP went down to 86/64. This all happened at work. I went home, got in the bed, and was sleep in minutes. This is the second time this has happened to me, a couple of months ago.

Has this ever happened to anyone, and could this be a Lupus flare?

Sound to me more like a panic or stress attack. Yes it has happened to me but I get blurred vision an heart palpations along with it. You might want to try some biofeedback to help and see if that claims it down. In fact biofeedback at night when going to bed each night might just warrant is off all together.

Best of luck. I will be thinking about you!

Deenie

I would get the bp checked you could be dehydrated

Are you on pain medication? Pain medication can lower your blood pressure.....my usually runs 94/60....pulse 70.... I would contact your Dr. and tell him what happened and drink plenty of water...

Hugs,

B

I would discuss this with your doc - especially since it has happened before. I also have these symptoms. There are many possible causes, but your doc should rule them out and get to the bottom of it due to the multiple possibilities - some minor and easy to deal with. Please let us know what you decide. Hope you feel better.

I get low BP so often, and because your heart is not able to push the blood and oxygen to all the areas it needs to be, including your brain, low BP can cause all sorts of weird symptoms from your brain not getting the oxygen and blood it needs. I had to start carrying a small camping salt shaker in my purse and one by the bed, and I shake some into my mouth and that raises my BP enough that I can function again. I get sweaty and nauseated too. Your body tries to deliver your little amount of blood to the heart first, so other parts of the body are deprived of blood, so you get dizzy and nauseated. It's not a lupus flare, but just one of the weird symptoms of lupus. Keeping hydrated and enough salt/electrolytes will prevent these episodes.

Thanks for the information, I had the same thing happen to me. My BP was 90/64. I wondered why I was feeling so light headed and "goofy". I also have stage 3 kidney disease. I guess I better step up the fluids. I need to get me a new nephrologist too since I have a new insurance. Thanks!!!

Hi Iamwiam,

Purplebutterfly as made a good comment about dehydration as none of we can afford to get in that state...i also suffer with low blood pressure and my symptoms are light headedness, losing balance besides passing out.

Check this list below as these symptoms come with Lupus flares. :)

  • Involuntary weight loss
  • Increasing hair loss

Lupus is often a self-repetitive disease: watch for a recurrence of the symptoms that you experienced when your disease started.

Hi Lamwiam,

I have the same symptoms pretty often here lately alone with stomachaches and I wonder if it's a lupus flare myself? I can't get use to when I'm having a flare except when I'm aching all over. I have be diagnosed almost two years now and I'm still trying to get use to flares. I will be praying for you as I do for all of us....................Blessings!

Update! I received an email from my PCP, he wants me to stop taking mu BP med (Lisnopril/HCTZ). He is looking to put me on another BP med. I was told it is common to start having side effect from BP medication if you have been on it for a long time.

Glad he found the cause Iamwiam!
