I have recently got a lesion in my hair. It is very hard and filled with puss. I have popped it and begin oozing. I have done this for several days. It was hurting when touched or when not touched. Also I have this bump behind my ear. It does not hurt and I have gotten from time to time. I have also have gotten these little lesion in my head as well but has not hurted like this before.
I was wondering if anyone had to deal with the issue and if so; should I be concerned. I have my rheumy appointment next month. Any suggestions I will appreciate it. Thankyou.
Ballerina has a point. It sounds more like an ingrown hair than something caused by your Lupus, however if it doesn't heal itself (remember it may take a while) I would see my doc. Remember, we are slow to heal but also more prone to having a little infections become larger infections.
Thanks guys. Appreciate the input. I was just kind of worry since I never had one that hurted. Yes the infection part is what is very serious to me; everything with immune system especially with the lump behind my ear.

There's no end of conditions which can be causing this issue but it sounds more like folliculitis which causes lesions where puss develops and i hope this link helps also plus you do need to watch for infection.
The bump behing your ear does it feel like a soft bump, as you can develope cysts and i've had several by my left ear...these can't be left as they do grow and need removing.
*******This is a reply to Michelle but PLEASE EVERYONE TAKE NOTE… We must remember on this site that we are here to give support, caring, understanding and share our stories. We must be careful not to cross over he line of giving medical advice. Even if we have bee in the field of medicine.( I worked as a nurse). ******please read the rest of my experience as I hope it will help all of you.
Michelle, there are so many things that that could be on your head and everyone that shared with you obviously had similar events, but the important thing is that it is infected. Yes, clear discharge and pus are actually white blood cells. They are there for a reason. With Lupus and along with so many medications we take, you can not self diagnose this and let an infection pass. My story did not have a terrific path but I am grateful to be here today to share it… I am constantly developing cuts, and splits in my fingers ( most likely from the neuropathy/Raynaud’s syndrome ) and these will become infected 75% of the time. In Oct. 2010 my index finger on my right hand became very purple, painful and swelled up so large within hours we has to cut a favourite ring off so as not to cut off the circulation completely. I self diagnosed what I assumed was gout, letting it go and making excuses not to go to the dr. It was so painful I could not sleep and had to keep my hand up in the air. Kept making excuses even though I had a higher fever ( in fact had been running a low grade for 3 weeks, but that’s something we learn to ignore with Lupus, right? ) ok…now comes Saturday morning (about 5 or 6 days after finger started swelling). My son insists I go to the dr. And I finally agree. Called the dr.,asking for some medicine for gout and Thank God he refused and insisted on seeing me immediately. He took about two steps into the exam room saw me holding up my finger and shouted I have to get to the hospital ASAP that what I had was not gout. He turned and ran out of the room. By the time he came back he had called the hospital, and told me to get right up there. He was hoping I would not lose the finger. -----very long tedious story , short…I ended up with osteomyelitis (infection in my bone) had surgery the next day, found staph also. A week later was transferred to nursing home where I would be for over 4 months. They attempted to heal me and save my finger with very a few of the strongest antibiotics available but finally on Dec. 16th had surgery to remove the top half of the finger, Feb. 14, 2011 second operation to remove the whole finger. In the meantime during the my nursing home the infection was traveling throughout my blood system now despite the meds and I almost died a few times. I cannot tell you how many ambulance trips I made back and forth to the hospital, just know I am going to be paying off many thousands of $ for many years. But, I am alive through the grace of God, a terrific hand surgeon, besides the nurses and caregivers including the friend who took me and my son in for two months after I left the nursing home because they would not let me go home to care for myself. Then continued with PHysical and occupational therapy, a home nurse and aide for six more months. Now I am learning to not cry with all the broken dishes etc. that I am still dropping, miss my old penmanship which was instilled in me way back in Catholic school (LOL) learning to re-type and knit, crochet, I cannot play the piano anymore although it’s a future goal, or I may just take violin lessons (seriously always dreamed of that).
Thank you for hopefully reading all this…my point is WE ARE LUPUS PATIENTS, WE ARE IMMUNOSUPPRESED, ANY SIGNS OF INFECTION OR WOUND THAT DOES NOT HEAL MUST BE SEEN AND DEALT WITH BY OUR DOCTORS. I did not relate because at the time my finger started hurting I had no visible signs of a sore or cut. The infection could have been from an old one and had spread internally without me knowing it. WE MUST TAKE ALL THE SIGNALS OZR BODIES GIVE US SERIOUSLY, DON’T MAKE EXCUSES OR REASONS NOT TO SEE THE PROFESSIONALS.
I care for each and everyone on this site…and thank you for all I have learned from you. I hope my story will help your awareness of how precious you are and that every symptom is significant and important to your well being.
LOVE & PEACE, ~Maré
Thank you for telling us what happened to you and especially losing your finger...i also suffer with deep cuts off the raynauds which go to the bone and MY GOD are they sore or what and my one finger is like total frost bite all the time.
Members know they can only give experience and alot of members do have the same ailments but like you state where puss is concerned you are talking doctor's or specialists, as it's a known fact infection.

I do agree with Mare when it comes to things like pus and other discharge (I know that sounds ucky), however, I also think that the members on this site have experienced many of the same issues and there are times when going to the doc for every little thing may not be feasible or affordable. My husband, who does not have Lupus, had a lump very much like what is being described and it was an ingrown hair, however after the pus was discharged, anti-biotic applied it healed. If it doesn't heal it should probably be looked at by a physician. This is NOT medical advice but simply an opinion. All members need to be proactive in their health care.
All members can do is offer support and ideas. It is up to the member asking the question to follow through with their care. It's helpful when we hear the results of a visit to the doctor or the use of a natural healing alternative.
It is just my opinion that members realize that these are simply suggestions...at least I hope that they realize these. By sharing what works for many of us we can ease the suffering of most of us or avoid wasted time.
Michelle, whatever you decide, I do hope that you find answers and can find relief from your pain.
