Kidney infections

I had a dangerous kidney infection and ended up in the hospital for 2 days. I had the same infection about 7 months ago only the first time I was in kidney failure. I do have sle lupus and I am wondering if they can tell if the lupus is causing these episodes or if it’s something completely different. Any ideas?

Have you had kidney stones with the infections?? It would cause excruciating abdomen pain. Anything like that? Im sorry for your pain.

I ended up developing Lupus Nephritis after having my Lupus in remission for almost three years…did your doctor recommend a kidney specialist or have you had a biopsy? It would be the only way to determine if the lupus and the kidney problems are directly related. Also, diet and lifestyle play a huge role with kidneys…smoking, weight, alcohol etc. can’t say that I really follow these rules all the time, but it seems as though often having a few drinks will exacerbate kidney issues with me. Sorry you are experiencing this. :frowning:

Yeah you can get kidney problems due to the lupus have they done a biopsy of the kidney? That’s how they detected mine

No kidney stones and they haven’t referred me to a specialist yet. I have a follow up appt with my primary on mprovided I come up with my copayment.

I’m not sure if this information will help or answer your question but it might give you an insight to some of your kidney problems. My husband was told when you get lupus it’s like a blueprint if your kidneys were affected itis your blueprints my husband’s blueprint with lupus is his lungs and his brain and his neurological system is affected. Each person has their own unique blueprint with lupus and whatever the organ affected or part of the body effect that will be trouble spot for the duration of your life. As for your kidneys specifically the knowledge that I have because my mother is facing dialysis so she has had kidney problems her entire life learned a little about kidneys and ways to treat them to help reduced kidney or bladder infections. Your rheumatologist specifically tell you protesting if your kidneys are specifically affected by you’re Lupus however there are some ways to treat or less on the chance of kidney infection. one of the biggest ways is make take a cranberry supplements the highest level of milligrams as possible 2 to 3 times a day depending on the milligrams I have also gone to a health food store and sound Aesop limit that takes the bacteria out of the bladder by doing this it will cut down on some of the kidney infections. This is what I have added to my mom’s daily regime.
Vitamin E 400 I U (1 tab daily)
D-Mannose mom vitamins urinary track 500mg (2 tab daily)
Cranberry 4200mg (2 tab daily)

She went from having a track and kidney infection every month to every other month now she only gets an infection every 4-5 months or longer plus she drinks lots of water and she make sure she has a low sodium diet thus far she has saved herself from having to do dialysis. between taking care of her and my husband who has SLE lupus & anti phospholipid antibody syndromeand quite a bit of complications from LUPUS I have learned a lot of medical information although I am NOT a nurse I am a social worker.
Good luck and I hope that this might help lessen the amount of kidney infections you get and God bless you I hope you stay well
