I have a question, has anyone just said screw it and got a buzz cut, or close to it??
I am a woman by the way, and I am so tired of the hair issues. My hair is coming back pretty well.
This has been my 4th go around with the hair loss. Maybe I am crazy?? And I know there are many more important issues than hair stuff. Just curious I guess!
I did buzz cut my hair when I experienced hair loss the first time. It was spring time and kept my head nice and cool and I liked not having to do my hair (I was too sick to blow dry or straighten it anyways). But I was very sick and found I looked too thin and sick with the buzz cut.
I have since grown it back but it is falling out again due to methotrexate I think. This time I am going to leave it is a short bob and see how bad it gets.
It is just hair- if you buzz it and don't like it you can always grow it back,
Recently I've been thinking the same thing. The weather is warm here in Queensland, Australia and my hair falls out on to the keyboard. Lately after just a few comb through s with a wide tooth comb I'm shocked by the amount of hair I'm losing.
I'm way over due to have my Thyroid Peroxidase AB levels checked so maybe my Hashimoto's is active.
Everhope I say go with the buzz, you can always grow it back or buy a wig like Ann has done.
I have buzz cut my hair and wore it that short for years. I’m thinking of doing it again because I have such a hard time keeping my arms up to wash and style it. My shoulders ache afterwards. I loved it short but that was before I gained 30 lbs so I’m not sure how I will like the look with a fatter face…lol My hair has fallen out and grown back so many times that it’s curly in one section, straight for another few inches, and then wavy. It’s funny to see it after I get out of the shower since the ends are really curly but it’s only the bottom 4 inches that are like that. I’ll probably chop it since I’m just too tired to deal with it most days. Annemarie
I have hair loss especially on the top can't do much with it myself but the haridresser gets it to look like a have a lot of hair. I would go to her twice a week if she lived closer. Good luck
Yes, I sure did, of course maybe I'm older than you, 68, it's just hair. My sister had stomach cancer and she was so depressed when she shaved it all off. Little did we know she had only 4 months to live, she was 53 and stage 4, so Everhope, it's hair, you can live without it. I've learned not to sweat the little stuff, I do have fibromyalga, psoriasis arthritis and now lupus. But I can always find worse off than me, so I try not to let it get me down. Do what you want to do, it's your body your hair. I have a 44 year old son who loss all his hair in his 20's and I could care less, it's what's inside that counts, he's a blessing in my life and such a good person. God Bless you on your journey.
I vote with everyone: if you want to buzz it off, do it!!! I am 72, wear mt hair very short and I've been wearing it that way for twenty years. I colored my hair until 20 years ago and decided one day to get rid of the color -- too much work! So I let it grow out a little ways and then went to the beauty shop and had my hairdresser buzz it off. I love it, people tell me all the time how cute and young I look and it gives me a real lift especially when I'm having a flare and feel like hell! Don't worry about how you look with your hair buzzed. Enjoy the freedom of short hair and savor the extra time you have since you don't have to blow-dry or color! Riv
I love short hair on women! But as my hair person said, never good idea to cut, color or make any other major changes if you are PMS ing plus at end of your rope for various reasons....she said she has had to correct too many problems or unwanted cuts down in one of those moods.
so think about it and go ahead if after a week you really want to cut your hair off. Also, hair extremely short tend to make you colder since you do not have the hair to keep you warm. I tend to cut off in summer and let it grown in winter...but i have done it all year round....just wear hats..which i do period. Plus short hair is less likely to get hat hair.
Hair is hair, you might as well have some fun. Plus, if your hair is falling out for various reason...menopause many women lose large amounts of their head hair...you should get it checked out why losing it.
if you are going to cut off 6 inches or longer please have you hair person save it for locks for love or other hair non profit who save haircut to make wigs for children, people with cancer and some non profits even make wigs for those with lupus who lose their hair and must wear wigs ...lupus non profit should have information.
Bobs are easy, they have fun ones now with little layering at the bottom...but buzz cuts if you have small face and even if you do not, well i think they can really make people's eyes and other features stand out instead of head of hair.
like said...it will grow back in few months anyways!! wigs and extensions if you hate it too
I loved my long hair! It used to be so thick and could hold a curl and look so full and nice!! Now I’ve lost so much hair I have less than half of the hair I used to . Thankfully I adopted my days thick hair so since I’ve lost so much I still have hair! After much debate I took a risk and cut it short. And I LOVE it!! Doesn’t drag my face down and so easy to take care of. My grandparents bought me a wig for Christmas so I can either have long or short hair . There is also a place called glam time hair extensions I want to get.
I also wear my hair very short,Do you all remember in the 80s?? Big hair and aqua net hair spray!!! I use to have very long hair and always had a Farrah faucet hair do!! Now I wear my hair in a pixie, but I have it razor cut, because it make your hair simple to style…and it makes it look a little thicker…it will always grow back, Like Ann,I have a lot of cute hats as well,I’m very blonde and very milk toast skin,I love sunshine but it does not like me,I live in Oregon so we don’t see a lot of sun,It rains most of the time…I also go to a barber 15 dollars…if you go to a salon you will pay 25,…life is to short not to take risks!!! Go for it… It’s just hair!!! Good luck, if you do go really short,I hope you love it and it makes you happy,at the end of the day your happiness is what counts…I get up everyday and tell myself,“I am my own hero”!!..I might even get it tattooed on the top of my foot… Celeste
My philosophy...it can never be too short. It is currently about 2" long, but I don't look good with long hair. Spiking your hair when it's short can cover thin spots.
You need to get a cut that makes you feel good. Talk to your stylist as they are trained to cut for people with issues such as ours.
Wow Ann,when I was in high school one of our cheerleaders did that, just before we were to go to a homecoming game,it was a mess…she stopped smoking after that…I hope you didn’t hurt yourself to bad…I would love to meet you…I bet your fun to be around…I love all your advice, god has blessed you with great wisdom…thank you Ann for helping me from time to time…I’m so thankful.Im still in a cast,3 months now and 3 casts later…they will never get the other hand and wrist…very painful…thanks friend for listening to me…
I miss you too!! The cancer surgery and the wrist and hand was to much in to short of time,I’ve been really sick…I hope and pray that things go well for you at your appt…keep me posted please…I so love the wig thing,I was watching the Grammys last night and told my youngest, she’s 27…if I was a little younger I would so rock “PINKS” hair…I’m almost there…just not shaved on the side!! For some reason she found humor in that,I was serious…Take care of yourself friend…
Today I decided to say forget it and just cut off my hair. It was extremely frustrating having my hair fall out. I decided maybe this option would work the best for me
Can't wait to see how wonderful you look. And, I am certain it will be lovely. I was freaked the first time I did mine short, but now I love it. It really does make it easier to cover any hair loss, but be vigilant about wearing a hat or scarf and there are even sunscreens built into some hair products, as your scalp may get too much sun.
Please post a pic so we can see the result. You are beautiful anyway, so a haircut is not going to change that.
I had long beautiful hair a year ago. I was going through an extremely stressful time with my daughter and I took it out on my hair. I chopped it very very short. It was cute but I was cold and miserable. It’s taken a year just to get it to a short bob. What I’ve noticed though, is that my hair is not growing the way it used to. I never used to have a problem cutting it all off because it grew so fast and so thick. Not anymore. It’s not the same now. It’s dry and brittle, a lot thinner and growing very slowly. I’m all for cutting it off just be aware you may not ever get it back.
