It's a stay home and safe from the weather weekend here, help needed

Alright, they are calling for a chance of snow flurries , so where I am living, people go a bit nuts. You would think we lived in North Dakota and had a major blizzard coming in. I've tried to explain what the term "chance of flurries" means, but no one has grasped it yet.

I intend to stay home. Safe from the craziness, and cold (lower 20's). I already have my survival kit ready, packed in a big basket:

good dark chocolate

a couple of yet unread novels, plus flashlight

a baggie of dog treats,

the tv remote,

2 bottles of water,

a heating pad,

several candles and a lighter in case power goes out,

and my point and shoot camera that takes short movie clips.

and a nice warm extra plush bath robe folded up on top.

and extra chocolate in case my joints freeze up and I'm rendered immoveable.

Flurries predicted here usually turns into an ice storm. Going now to turn my car around so getting out of the driveway will be easier. The sand bags for gardening are close by, in case I have to sling any down for traction. (southern = we don't own proper winter tires!) And I have the curtain open to watch all the Billy Joe Jimbobs out in their four wheel drive trucks thinking they can manage on ice. Trust me, the wrecker services make mega bucks when this happens. LOL.

My question is, what has my brain being spaghetti made me forget to add to the survival kit? I know it is missing something important.

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm going to be hunkering down in my safe zone.

Hugs, Louise

Hi Louise

I live in Alabama you should see the way they drive here when they say snow. Have you got extra batteries and your meds close incase the lights are out a couple of days? I always put things like crackers and peanut butter out on the table and things that do not need to be cooked usually when my power goes out it is a couple of days before it comes back on I live in the middle of nowhere Stay warn and get more chocolate.

OMG, Louise. I had a real hearty laugh over this one. My sister used to live in GA and being from IN she used to call me every time they had weather like you described and she would rant and laugh about the drivers and the run on the grocery stores. This is hilarious but I can't think of anything to add then what others have already said. I wish you the best.

Hugs, Reet

Sounds like you are ready Louise :) I have been feeling the cold damp weather with my aches and pains all week .....and it is gonna be in the teens and 20's here this weekend too. A heat pad is a great idea........but I like an electric blanket, it's great to just snuggle under and stay warm.... :)

And next Wed. sounds real interesting for us up here in the mountains of East Tennessee........they are predicting a wintery mix and possible snow accumulations .......we might have a "white thanksgiving" ............I am sure the grocery stores will be a madhouse with these weather predictions ! All those people wiping out the milk and bread shelves and trying to get all the items for the Thanksgiving dinner too !!! LOL

Take care and stay warm............

Blessings and (((hugs)))

Thank you for a very good laugh! :D I have been sick for over a month and just got up feeling really down, but this made me laugh. Oh I needed that. Here in kc MO we can get anything from ice to a blizzard to truly just flurries. So everyone still goes crazy whenever any of the above is mentioned. I laugh at the 4 wheel drive folks too. It is crazy. Blessings to you and keep warm and safe.

Lol!! I am still laughing. I am in Virginia Beach headed to my hometown in Michigan tomorrow where It will be cold and snowy. I have not been back in over a year, I hope the cold air doesn’t send my Raynards into over drive. This will be my first winter back home since my diagnosis.

Thanks for giving me a good chuckle!! I grew up near Chicago and now I live in San Diego. People can't even drive in the rain here much less the snow in the mountains!!

I love your survival kit!!

You’re a very funny woman! You haven’t forgotten a thing! I see you have your sense of humor and that’s the most important thing! Got a love you girlfriend! Lol I’m from Michigan too. Same thing happens here too. But this year I’ve decided to stay in Hawaii, that’s where I am right now and I don’t intend to go home to Michigan unti the last snow flake drops! Lol

I wish we had known each other when you were in Chicago, Ann. I was in the western burbs. It is snowing here but no real accumulation yet but I did call my sister to make sure she has chocolate in the house. She loved it.

When I first moved from Chicago to Virginia the response to snow drove me nuts. I can still see the look in my kids eyes whe they were introduced to the concept of "snow day." When I realized that my neighbors did not shovel their walks

I tried to underdtand the Southern attitude toward snow.

God put it down there. Let God get it up.

But this also applies.

Medication, cell phone, slippers, and extra blankets are all I could think to add. Love the chocolate : )

chocolate lasts about 2 hours here if I stretch it out.

I am going to have save that term...billy joe jimbobs lol....they watch those tv commercials and think oh wow we can drive through anything with a 4 wheel drive truck!! Trucks get stuck so much faster and as you say on ice...nothing works you just slide!! I cannot tell you how many city people i have helped get unstuck or with husband...winch them out. They are doing just really stupid stuff. But who has not got stuck once? most of us have if you go off road.

I am sorry that snow is heading your way...i know what snow flurries are...they make me dizzy if driving ..the way the snow flies at your windshield! You think where you live people would know it is no biggy. Why all the fuss?

You sound prepared!! An excuse to stay warm and read or watch movies!! As long as you got plenty of wood near by too and nice fire!

I agree about chocolate being a necessity! But as i have said all my life..i am Swiss so it is part of my biological make up!! Stay warm and be safe! Enjoy watching the yahoos slide through stop signs too!!

This is a great post... I'm fortunate that we live 2 blocks away from a 24 hour CVS... so chocolate is never too far away. I had an incident with my Raynauld's yesterday which really surprised me. We had some snow, I thought it was really pretty, but the winds! We became the windy city LOL. My husband bought me gloves with the finger tips out so my hands would be warm, and I was trying to put gas in my car... My fingers froze up so fast and furious I couldn't start the pump and my fingers started to hurt with great intensity I had to leave! I've never experienced that before with my Rayauld's.

I had to go out last evening, Trisha, and you are so right. It was cold, cold, cold. Thankfully I don't have Raynauds.

Louise,
So glad you’re taking the time to prepare. The one item I would mention is that in my emergency box I keep at least two days of med doses…so if I get have to leave or I find myself
immobile I will at least have a couple days of meds with me. I don’t know about you, but I feel it immediately if I miss a dose of some of them. Importance. Not to break your cycle STAY Warm &SAFE…

Your meds!! That's all I can think of... and the dog that the treats belong to;)
