I went in for a wig consultation yesterday and was very excited to get “hair” again only to have a frustrating chat w my insurance company this morning. Apparently you have to go to their facility ( which has horrible reviews) or there’s not even reimburse able coverage. The rep explained that this is all that is required of them by law. Isn’t that a horrid thing to say to a person?

It's sad and true. People don't seem to care much about those they are responsible for, they only think of their own liability and responsibility and greedy bottom line. I'm surprised if you get any coverage, because even cancer patients almost never get coverage for wigs, which is why "Look Good-Feel Better" charity was organized. So did you find something comfortable and looks the way you want it?
I think that is so wrong, I think the problem is that not enough people know anything about Lupus or the awful things It does to the body including the hair. They should start educating people about this disease like they do for other diseases. I have never even see a commercial about Lupus like they have for cancer, drug additions, other health problems. Maybe if more people were educated and learned just how many people this disease effects, they would change some of their policies. It seems like every time some disease effects my family; esp. my children, I have to fight to get anything done, sometime it does help or it does not help my children at the time, but I noticed a lot more is being done for these issues. I am very sorry you had to go through that, and I too think it is very insensitive. Take care.
