I am now in a role reversal taking care of my parents. They are both in a nursing home 500 miles away. I am their powers of attorney. My Dad had a stroke and has been declining and is now in Hospice care. I only have 1 sibling, a brother and he lives near them. But as we all know, sons can't do what daughters can. I have also been taking care of my husband who has been losing his eyesight due to an injury. He can't go on disability because he still has one child he pays child support for. We couldn't live on that little bit. Just 2 more years and maybe we can retire. Yes, I did have to reinvent myself. I am still in the role of Mom but in a different aspect. God Bless everyone!!!

I too had to cross that road. My ADA accommodations did not cost them anything extra. I teach 1st grade. I asked for assitant in the afternoon, smaller class size (18) students and time off for flares without counting against the attendance policy which would require a write up. They said they no teacher has an assistant, which was a lie, I taught inclusion which require an assistant and sped teacher. The assistant can in the morning but was pulled quite often to do other job. The sped teacher was there for an hour in the morning, but had meetings often and also worked with other classes. I was placed at the end of the hall so I had to walk my children clear across the building daily for resource and lunch. I was exhausted everyday and would occasionally get help from other teacher when transporting students. The day my back went out I was in my room alone and could not get to a phone. I had to endur excruciating pain to slide from desk to desk then force myself to try to walk the few steps to get my cell phone and call the nurse. I could not scream for help being at the end of the hall and the other teach on the other side were kindergarten teachers who had a different schedule. That was my last day, I SMS on long term disability and appling for SSD and retirement disability. I was denied the first time, this time I have an attorney. This all turned out to bea blessing. I really having had time to focus on my health nd slow down. I over did it daily when working, didn’t have a choice. I would leave work with work to complete at home which left me so stressed full of aniexty that I was forgetting something important. Teaching was my passion. I sometimes have dreams of getting to work or walking into my classroom not prepared or knowing what I suppose to be teaching. I truly believe that when God closes one door another will be open. I have been thinking about on on one tutoring 3 days a week for one hour.
