Is a chronic autoimmune disease (uctd) covered under FMLA? Can an employee can be out one or two days at a time a few times a year due to their illness without being subjected to repercussions?
its up to the company and their policy on absenteeism. Usually FMLA is used for a continuing illness that prevents you from being able to work for a longer period of time. Its a way of protecting your job if you have to be out due to illness for an extended period of time, however while it protects your job often the time off is without pay. I hope this helps.
It can also be used for intermittent absences like you are talking about. I have had it for several years.
It can’t hurt to ask. I filed and received the benefit of Missing up to five consecutive days of work two times a month Plus excused doctors visit for a couple hours a few times a year. I actually had to use it recently when I was sick. My company policy is you need a doctors note after three consecutive days off. Because of this benefit, I did not have to worry about that. Not that I was worried, as I knew my doctor would write me a note no problem. However, not having to even worry about it was a plus.
Apply for ADA accommodations with medical certification.
Hi Roxy, it is covered under FMLA. I have been out of work going on 6 months under fmla. You need to speak with your employer and have them help you with the paper work. Hope this helps.
Yes. Before I went on total disability, I used FMLA when I needed to be off periodically and it saved my job. You just have to keep renewimg it every year.
Yes you would file it with the company your employer uses for short term and FMLA it can be done however the doctor writes it for instance if the dr write you can miss 1-4 days a month for a flare but I recommend setting hours because that could give you the option to leave half a day and not count as a whole day… Hope that helps
Yes it is. I also used it to keep my job before becoming permanently disabled.
Yes, FMLA is used for any type of diseases and time off for Dr. appts.
I didn't know it could be used intermittently, good to know .
As long as you fill out the proper paperwork as often as your employer requires it there should be no problem. Used for days of flares, time off for medical test or dr. appts. It basically protects your job. But it has time limitations. If you use all of your allowed hrs before your time renews your employer does have the right to terminate you. I use mine wisely.
With the exception of the year I had a pericardial effusion and subsequent heart surgery I average 7-9 days out per year. The plaquenil seems to be giving me my energy back. Even though our contract allows for 10 sick days, two personal days and 3 family illness days a year, they are threatening to not give the contracted raise if you are out more than 6 days for two consecutive years. The only exception is the death of a family member or extended absence due to a serious medical conditions. Intermittent absences would be red flagged. This hard line is new and applies to everyone. I can’t believe that after 17 years, I am forced to protect myself
