Exercise

Does anyone have any recommendations for exercise? At this time I've gained weight, but I'm so stiff, achey and tired I don't want to do it!

Kathy this is a wonderful discussion to start. It's difficult to think about exercise when just moving around to do routine things hurt. I look forward to other members suggestions : ) Trisha

Start of with walking…taking nice slow walks in the evening after which u cld start mild jogs and stretches after. U should try a bit of pilates and yoga 2, kping the bodys joints active helps out. I try to kp mobile as much as possible…

I'm so happy to see this discussion. Having lupus and diabetes I need to exercise and my exercise has always been walking, but since being dx with lupus I often have swelling behind my knees and in my ankles which makes it painful to walk. I usually take an OTC pain reliever about a half hour before my walk, but now I'm wondering if walking while having the swelling will cause more damage to my joints. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

That's a great question - My doctors know I stand all day at work, and do a lot of walking. They've not told me not to. I have an appt with my orthopedic doctor on Monday, that's one thing I'll ask about. thanks for idea! Trisha

Hello Sue,

Exercising with Lupus is all down to how bad it's running through your sytem besides affecting your joints like myself and Trisha besides...i have muscle Atrophy (Muscle wastage) and i was told by my first rheumo to keep your body going properly besides your muscle with Lupus is swimming...we have quite a few members who do it besides aerobic classes in the water and have found such alot of benefit from it plus that alone helps you to lose weight.
