I have only been dealing with lupus for a little over a year now. I exercise, but have learned when to not go to the gym, and maybe do some yoga at home. If youre tired, dont push yourself to exercise, it will only set you back, may cause a flare.
As far as diet goes, you kind of have to find out the hard way what doesnt work for you. But I avoid mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, cranberries. Im not much of a milk drinker, so cheese is my downfall. But I dont eat alot of it. Sometimes when youre in a flare or one is starting up, youre body will give you signs. Listen to them. When Im starting a flare, I feel nauseas, so I live off of chicken broth, and eventually work my way up to strawberry/banana smoothies. Eventually I eat regular food. BUt I know I need to change my diet, its hard.
Always feel free to ask as many questions as you want, people on here are very nice and helpful. And if you dont ask, you'll never know. Good luck
I have a lot of stomach issues and was tested for celiac disease. While I was waiting for the to result to come back I started researching a gluten free diet. Gluten is bad for us all the way around. It can cause may things to happen to our bodies, including lupus, and inflamation. I eliminated boxed and canned foods from my diet a few years ago too. There is gluten in shampoos, tooth paste and baking soda, mustard and ketchup too. It is in just about everything. I am slowly starting to eliminate it even though I tested negative for celiac and my stomach is a little better already. I have removed dairy also. Jonhs Hopkins has a food list to avoid if you have lupus. The following links maybe helpful:
With regards to exercising. Low impact exercising is not harmful for lupus. I have fibro and lupus. My muscel wastage is bad and i needed to do something to help it. I work out at the gym three times a week and it helps me with the joint pain. I do very simple things and do less reps then one would do. I also do pool aerobic exercises. My rheumy told me that it was okay! You may want to talk to your doctor first to see if it is okay for you to do so! Some of your local hospitals may have a pool aerobic program you may want to check it out.
My old Rheumo told me the best exercise for lupus and muscle toning was swimming and regarding eatting foods properly for Lupus, it is known it's helped people...i suffer badly with IBS but 4 days back i started sorting myself out regarding food and drinkinking water because of dehydration.
For my breakfast i have special k, dinner Prune yogurt and banana or a salad sandwich, then my tea at night based on salad with chiken added etc and before 8pm more fruit like grapes, strawberry's and i do know it's been helping my IBS better.
