Hi Everyone! I haven't been on in a while and hope everyone is doing well.
My fiancé is the one with the Lupus and thankfully he was diagnosed and treated fairly quick! He's on Celcept, Plaquinil, Prednizone and Cetrizine. The Celcept has been a wonderful addition. He isn't having his usual flares but…. he's lost 35 pounds in a month and a half of being on this. We see the Reumy next week and this will be my main topic. He says he feels great… but he cannot keep weight on and it's bothering him. He eats like a (healthy) horse and it just falls off. (I wish it would rub off on me.. the weightloss that is) Has anyone else experienced this? Help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, Weight loss is one of the side effects some people have to Celcept. Sometimes a combination of meds will cause problems. Many people especially with auto immune diseases are hyper-sensitive to meds...I often start with 1/2 dosage and work my way into the new med.
Also, perhaps the meds are effecting your thyroid. You might want to have lab work done for antibodies to thyroid, as well as the normal thyroid tests. I know a doctor that was drinking a diet tea that caused him to loose weight. He stopped taking the tea but could not stop losing weight.
He became very hyperthyroid...he was about to have thyroid surgery when he tried Reiki and the thyroid normalized.
I am currently taking both prednisone and cellcept and my rhuemy said its normal to loose weight due to the prednisone. I have last around 60 pounds in less than 5 months.
Weight loss happens to me during a bad flare. I will sleep for two weeks straight and lose 10lbs of weight. I knew a flare is coming up if i keep on losing weight unintentionally.
