I have had Lupus for almost 3 years now and I have tried all the steroids, methotrexate, Imuran, Cellcept, Plaquenil, and one or two more that I forget. My Dr. asked me yesterday if I was willing to try Benlysta since it was still in trials. He seems reluctant to have me use it, but we are both at our wits end with my lupus. Is any one on the Benlysta trial, and is your insurance picking up any of the cost?
Thanks,
Pinky
I havent use benlysta, but im on Rituxan wich its kinda similar and it helps alots…Rituxan its a 5hr infusion…idk how long benlysta takes…but i will say try itand see how it works…good luck…love Dunnia…
Thanks Dunnia,
I'll let you know if I try it. I'm not sure that I will however due to the cost. I was told by my DR. That it is $35,000 per year. I think I would rather send my daughter to college. HA HA - Pinky
Ask him about Rituxan, or if you eligible to get benlysta for free, theyre is some programs for low income ppl. Where u can get Rituxan for free if your insurance doesnt covered, do ask your dr. If they have the same programs for benlysta…you just have to fill out an application and and send it to the manufacturer, but usually it takes a few months, ask your dr. The recepcionist should know how…good luck and i hope it works…

Benlysta has finished phase 3 of trials and is approved in Europe and the US- not sure where you live. Many insurance companies cover it and some has restrictions as it is only effective in certain types of lupus Due to the cost certainly worth checking out
