I changed doctors because my last one wouldn’t listen. The doctor I have now listens, knows about lupus, and is really good. And I know it’s not his fault, but since I’m new to his office he can’t refill my pain medication. I only take it when I really need it. This last prescription lasted me 3 months, but now I’m out. Was told today that because of regulations, they can’t refill it because there’s not enough documentation in my file. They are still waiting for my records from the other dr to put with what they have. They know I’m hurting and know that ibuprofen isn’t enough, but their hands are tied atm. So it’s you will have to suffer/deal with it until we can get enough documentation. Said otherwise they could lose their license. So I asked them if there was a natural alternative pain killer out there. I’m told they are researching but no answers yet.
Hi Tara, I am Patricia here and have been through this situtation. TheDr, knows you are hurting and it seems like to me he should have given you something even the same meds just to hold you over until he got all of your records. I have had this for 30yrs and never once in changing Drs. was I refused a med, I don't understand him writing a new pres, would jeoprdize
his practice. Was this a Rhuemy perhaps?
I hope you get some relief soon cause it is no fun.
Hugs,
Pat
Hi tara, I’m tracy. I’m sorry that you are having a hard time with pain. I used to be in extreme pain with my joints and now I’m making sure I take my pescription vitamin C & D . I also eat salads with pineapple. The pineapple is good for immflamation and pain. Ask your doctor can you do some stretch exercises. I will be praying for you.
well i understand they have to have enough that says you are in substantial pain, but along with the rhuemy doc, you can have them refer you to a pain clinic, and they can give you pain meds.......that is what my rhuemy doc, did for me, and it is easier, now i can just talk to him about my lupus problems, instead of just talking pain meds,,so call his office and see if they will refer you to a pain clinic, ........god bless you dear ,,,,,,,purrs..catspaw1955
Not sure why he won't write a script- private practice physicians can write scripts for scheduled drugs but they can no longer do automatic refills It is common for autoimmune dz to have prn pain meds available since pain is a prominent feature Unless your pain is due to an unrelated condition
Hi Tara. Get yourself to a pain management doctor immediately. There is no reason that you should be in pain all the time. Sure, there is break through pain, but even that can be managed better than ibuprofen. God bless you. I will remember you in my prayers.
Thanks I will talk to him about this. The pain is from the lupus and degenerative joint disease. My dosage of methotrexate was increased to try and help with the pain, but I was told they couldn’t give ghe pain medication because the drug administration were auditing doctors that prescribe narcotics to make sure the people they are giving them to are legit. I know people sell and over use narcotics. But they shouldn’t punish the ones who really need them. It’s so aggravating.
What type of pain do you have? There are several natural pain relievers but they target different kinds of pain. I am better acquainted with the essential oils than any of the others since they are what I use. They are not cheap to buy but in the long run most are cheaper to use than prescription drugs. You need to be careful to check possible side effects with any drugs you are taking. If you are on any type of medication I would start away from St. John's Wort, since it reacts to a lot of stuff.
Also check the laws in your state. I know that in Colorado out is against the law to refuse pain treatment.
Unfortunately people that are in extreme pain act the same as “drug seekers” those that clog up emergency rooms to score prescription pain meds to use or sell. I have gone through the same thing in dealing with my cluster headaches and waiting hours in extreme pain for the ER to give me something that actually helped. I thank God that I found a headache pain specialist that completely understands what I go through. I look back at all the years I suffered not getting the treatments I needed because of dumb#%^ doctors who thought they knew best. Sounds like you may need to find a DR who knows how to treat your illness better.
Do you know what you call a Doctor who got D’s in school? Doctor! Not all are equal.
I'm sorry you're suffering. As some of the others have stated, try to find relief. Personally, i found natural remedies
like pineapple and tumeric to help. Stay away from night shade vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant) as they inflame your system. I finally found relief with Imuran in addition to my Plaquenil. It took a couple months to really give true relief but I preferred that to narcotics. Resting, stretching, Yoga and meditation have all helped me tremendously. Godspeed!!!!!
Something else to stay away from is breads and dairy products that have carrageen, or anything else with it in it. It is a big cause of inflammation.
Black pepper oil also works well but you have to be sure and dilute it with an other oil if you have any sensitivity on your skin. I mix it with olive oil and lavender (not lavedin). You have to make sure it is real lavender because lavedin which is sometimes sold as lavender is high in camphors and can burn your skin.
Thank you guys for all the support and advice.
