Any thing I may not have thought of would be appreciated. This is my third bought with pneumonia this year. I'm on steroids, anti-biotics, inhaler every four hours, and regular meds for stomach issues and alergies. Any thoughts would be valued.
I've had pneumonia several times besides pleurisy...keep indoors, keep your home warm but windows slightly open for ventalation and buy some friars balsam and put so much in a large bowl with boiling water to how it says and learn over it with a towel completley covering you until it starts going cold...do not venture out while doing this proceedure as you can become severally ill...you must wait a full 24hrs after doing it before going anywhere.
I really feel for you as it's so unpleasant and regarding anti-biotic's 2 lots the most in a year should only be took even less if you can because they lower our immune system even more.
any idea where I can find friars balsum? I have always tried to avoid antibiotics, my grandmother made sure that we weren't given antibiotics unless it was something it could help.
i have access to tons of natural stores and nature itself, see what i can do

You can get firars balsum from chemists if not an herb shop and it tell you the amount to put ina bowl and once your covered keep inhaling in and out...it's an old remedy here and it's pulled me out of pneumonia a few times plus they use it in our hospitals also for these cases.
You can also get some vicks vapour rub and rubbing it on your lungs at the back and your chest will help you to breath while resting and also add abit by your nostril's as it feels like cold air going up your nose, it all circulates to the lungs better.

Soon as this one is over and you are health...get the vaccine for pneumonia! Like you, i had 3 or more in one year and kept taking longer to get over it. I was using antibiotics that just been approved by FDA for last one! No steroids since i refuse them unless life/death. Too many side effects and it sill not help the pneumonia.
Out of curiousity are you going in and out of air condition car/ buildings into hot weather a lot this summer/fall? That tends to bring on bronchitis which than can turn into pneumonia quickly.
One thing that did work....when just bronchitis but might still help if not too sick or who knows still might...is there is homeopathy drug they use in Europe ..You just use drops it is so strong...it can kill you easily. Was German PA who prescribed it..and it worked!! i believe it was phosphorus.
i would never treat yourself especially since as she (PA) kept saying too much could kill me so be very careful with it. Also i am not specialist...so see one. BUT the vaccine has worked! i never had another one since!
But i am still careful about using air in car when i need to get /out a lot or same in building with air and very hot out side. It just brings it on and did same with my husband. Not smokers either one of us..eat well..docs said pretty normal for some of us the alternating temperatures bring it on...but was bad. I could feel liquid fill up lungs if laid down and as i sat up same thing only lowered to bottom.
So ask your doctor to consider it....many laughed but it did work and when i researched it. It had been used for years here in US...but than we got out of that kind of healing...though many other countries still use it with great success! lots of healing power to you!! lol take good care...if coughing..do get opioid cough syrup you can and we have broke ribs coughing so hard.
I really feel for you! i've been dealing with pneumonia for a year now! been on two different antibiotics and they both didn't help! i'm going to try some of the things suggested on here.. wish you all the best
Thank you for all your advice. I did get the pneumonia vacine in january after the first and worst bout. I got sick this time when we turned the heat on for the first time this year. siskiyousis said:

Have you thought about having the vents in your home cleaned? sometimes spoors can be in there and keep causing bacteria pneumonia, just a thought . I hope you feel better soon.
Yes I have. It's way beyond what I can afford. My house is old, over a hundred years, we've had to have mold removed from the basement a few years ago. Definitely some thing I will do as soon as I can.
Thanks

Let's hear it for the pneumonia shot! You can still do acupuncture and wholistic medicine, but take the shot.
My lung "tissue: gets infected from the brochiectasis I have at least once a year. If I contracted pneumonia on top of that, whew! Haven't had pneumonia yet.
Hi Lisa, hope that you are okay !!!!TRY , TRY , TRY, to relaxe and get some rest ( most of all DON"T STRESS) even though that can be hard at times , but try - smile !!!! Maybe you can get some vitamin C , u-know that's what you body it put out and your not getting enough of it because of all the other meds.,talk with you later and feel better soon....Beverly L.
I have also had pneumonia twice this year. The second time was horrible. One side of my face went numb. It felt like I had fluid pour into that side of my face. It got so bad that the medical doctors thought I may have had a stricken which I didn’t. We also have some mold in our house but I cannot afford to do anything. I’ve got so many medical bills that I can’t even see straight and I have health issuance.
KIm, Bless you! that sounds awfull. Over the years I have accumulated so many medical bills that I have no hope of ever paying them. I don't have insurence anymore, I go to a sliding fee clinic.

I won't take steriods either had to much of a bad experience with them in the past and can't use herb stuff either and regarding accupunture everyone as their own ways of coping i'm due the flu jab and while i'm at the doctor's i'll see about a pnuemonia jab also...my left lun is black from the pneumonia and pleurisy both being combined.
My mom took over in the end and used an old remedy which is paste heated and applyed to cloth and wrapped around the lungs as i'm still lucky to be here.
I'm pleased otherwise that your getting results from the accupunture.

HI Terri: I have had 7 pneumonias since being diagnosed in 1992. I do not take steroids at all, and have had some success with Chinese herbs. You must see an acupuncturist who is Asian born and Asian trained. These doctors are also herbalists by their training. It takes alittle time for the symptoms to decrease, but the herbs build the immune system rather than tearing it down. Lupus has scarred my lungs and that is why I am always guarding the lung field. BY Chinese Medicine, the Fall goes with lung energy and we have to take great precaution in that season. Also, cutting out the dairy, white flour and refined sugar helps reduce inflammation. Study dietary changes as prevention.
I feel as if it has turned to broncitis. I'm coughing my head off, but there are times when I can breathe well enough to sleep, big improvement. The not being able to rest was making me crazy.
When your well enough to see your GP get him/she to listen to your chest and by the sounds of things you could do with your chest x-raying to see how it's affected your lungs.
I've got bronicle bronchitis and cough at night, i'm now on 2 lots of steriod inhalers besides to normal and i fetch blood up every morning through it, they tried at the doctor's twice to test me for several lung diseases besides but my lung capacity can't reach the test and i go dehydrated within minutes and on top i have the lupus hurting my lungs and then the sjogrens drying my organs out and the lot causes some pain in my back besides wheezing.
From someone who's gone through the mill over the years...see your gp and ask for an x-ray to be done to make double sure.
Love Terri :)
