Same problem, I blame it on meds. A couple of months ago I had my first colonoscopy and on my follow up visit the doc prescribed Linzess. I swear, it will clean you out…guaranteed! You take it in the morning before you eat…and about an hour after you eat, the bowels move. For me, I must be at home near a potty! 
Its worth that inconvinience though.
First of all, I hope you get this taken care of soon, So you can feel better. I have to take stool softeners everyday, because my BP meds. They usually do the trick, but I also eat lots of veggies and make sure I eat an apple a day. Good luck, and feel better.
I had a similar problem, and have suffered from constipation most of my life. Last time the Dr. Thought I had an obstruction cause he could feel my full abdomen and he gave me a sample of Linzess. It really helped. I had fever too and we never found out where that was coming from. I think not going on a regular basis is really bad on your system cause you can get toxic.
