Abstaining from sugar

Geneva,

Thanks for your honesty. Yes we all have our cravings and its really a mind thing to find alternatives. Organic airpopped corn is good, instead of salt I use pepper. I save the salt for things I feel really need it. If you are good at sticking to a commitment, then I know you'll make it. I usually carve out 21 days on my calander when I do and I am more empowered by that time I take to read labels and see whats in them for future reference. Also I sometimes pick up some good habits or discover a new natural sweet. Post here and let me know how your plan pans out:)

This is a great question as I am trying to stop today myself. I had an M&M binge!! I have been bad lately and am chubbier than ever, but I also feel pretty good. Doesn't make sense. I need to lose some weight though so I will try. I always crave salt after the sugar, I usually have the low calorie popcorn and that helps.

Like Trisha I have no interest in food so I always grab the wrong thing. My husband is a foodie and that doesn't help!

Let us know if you have any success.

Thanks Greensurfer, I am going to try. I have done it before and I will do it again! I'll keep you posted on my progress!

I have!!! It's bloody difficult, haha. I only succeeded with NO SUGAR for about a month... and had to incorporate some type of cheat day to be totally succesful... on my cheat day I would have a low sugar/ low fat type of treat like frozen yoghurt, or some type of somewhat healthy candy. I am a sugar nut, so it was really difficult for me. Now, I have like "one treat" a day- which is still a big improvement for me, lol... And i still choose healthier treats. Honestly- I ddin't notice a difference in symptoms. I noticed somewhat of a difference in my energy fluctuations... if that makes sense, and generally felt "cleaner", which is always great. I've tried the fad juicing and so on as well- and that didn't make much of a difference either. I am going on a total raw food thing in january though- and I can let you know how that goes!

I have been off sugar for three weeks and I have noticed a difference in my fatigue level after about two weeks. I did not really realize it until I noticed I was not falling asleep mid day after doing simple task. I never thought to attribute it to sugar, but it was the only thing I had changed.i craved sugar and salt often. I get my sugar naturally through fruits such as grapes and apples. The first two weeks was the hardest, now I don’t crave candy and doughnut holes.

heymj, one thing at a time. Going gluten free I noticed some big changes. And it doesn't have to be expensive. Juicing may help with this and clean out some of the build up.

I have been trying to go gluten free, but have not given up sugar. I end up slipping quite a bit with the gluten free, but when I do I try to go back to it right away. It's not easy, but I keep trying because all the signs seem to suggest that I have some sort of absorption problem (i.e. I'm not processing food correctly).

Tawnie, I have read some on bio feedback. You are fortnuate, its taken some time for my physicians to change their minds, but little by little me and another girl taking more natural ways has helped. Yes, the skin is a side benefit for me now I don't notice till my acne comes back that was a trouble most of my life spending gobs of money on products. I've found myself reading labels more too and it always help if your shopping with a friend and their more attuned to reading the ingredients than you. Keep it up, I think you've done very well. Most never get to the point of starting, sugar is an addiction.

Yes -after trying bio feedback. I am fortunate to have physicians & chiropractor that support each other. (some chiropractors are anti medical doctors & vise versa)

Let me tell you - I was very skeptical & hate change. At first I thought the lady was a quack but it was amazing the things she was able to pinpoint without any background info what so ever. After initial visit I tried to cut out sugar cold turkey. I was an absolute nightmare and emotional disaster. I said forget this & went back to sugar. I finally - gradually cut out sugar . It was amazing how much clearer skin was & flares didn't seem as bad. I have no will power so I found myself over indulging & miserable. I stay away from sugar & processed foods but......I will allow myself a snack size candy when I feel the urge to over do it. I also started to read labels & research foods more because it is crazy the places sugar "hides". I also cut back on gluten & dairy. Which also helps.

It is a struggle (at least for me) but worth it. Best of Luck!

Jen, that's great that you are gluten free. Not everyone is able to have their celiac disease detected, but most do notice a difference when cutting it out. Are you able to cut out processed sugar and stick with natural sugars? I don't know enough about diabetes.

I'm gluten free. I actually have ciliac disease. It took a good 3 months for me to notice anything but I saw a big chNge in my belly pain. Plus, I know when I cheat and accidentally eat just a little gluten. I don't know if I can cut out sugar. I have steroid induced diabetes and still have a sugar issue.

One month is very hard if its your first time. I bet if you were to plan out another month three months in advance you'd mentally be ready for the challange. There are so many natural alternatives I've found over time, dates is one of them. Cocoa is put in my avacado banana smoothies, which turns into a chocolate shake for me or pudding if I use almond milk. Cut up some apples and have some chunky EARTH BALANCE peanut butter and its like having a carmel apple. Yes please let me know how raw foods go, the above might fit into the category of raw foods. All of it is lifestyle changes, your already one step ahead.

That's great Purplefav. I also didn't realize the benefits till months later. You are making the better choice with the fruits. For me the problem comes when I break that habit and get influenced by my work environment. Doughnuts or the vending machine or stops at gas stations. It sounds like your doing good though:)

I can’t do the no sugar. And the diabetes is steroid induced. I love figs to satisfy my sweet tooth but they convert into sugar in the body. Kind bars are amazing. The dark chocolate cherry ones. Yum!!!
